Your first job out of college can really mold you as a professional. Clara Boles sat down with Cargill's Kayla Fogg to talk about why your first job out of college is so important.
Take some of these other factors into consideration:
Your First Job Teaches You More than You Would Think
Yes, you will learn how to do day-to-day tasks BUT the initial company you would for is essentially giving you your first taste of being a true professional. You will learn how to work on a team, how to communicate professionally, and even how to overcome generational differences.
Your First Job Builds Relationships
There will never be a professional relationship that will not be important or not mean something from now on. The networking does not end now that you are employed! Take advantage of getting to know your coworkers, clients, and partners. It is great to make those professional relationships- odds are you will really learn a lot from them too! You never know when, or if, your paths will cross again someday.
Your First Job Makes Sure Your Passions Align
It is so important to really reflect on yourself and see what you are passionate about. It would be a disappointment to sell livestock products when your passion aligns with seed. The burnout and disappointment would really wear on you if you showed up for work every day and were not passionate about it!
Your First Job May be a Stepping Stone
What are your goals? Do you want to stay in the same role for the rest of your life? Odds are you are in your early 20's that is a no! So, look for a company that has growth opportunities, that does not have to mean climbing the ladder, but continuing to add to that toolbox of your skill set.
Your First Job is Real Money!
I know, I know; we all have to talk about salary! When you are going to accept your first full-time salary, keep in mind you are accepting this salary for not only your new role but also setting the bar for your career.
