Applying, filling out applications, resume upload after resume upload…ugh. Sometimes applying for jobs can feel like a mundane and tiresome task, especially when we feel like we are never hearing back.

Today I have five ways to get out of that “just applying” phase that will ensure your motivation for the duration of your job hunt. Get ready to be motivated because here we go!

  1. Set the Goal

People seem to be motivated by simply just setting a goal, so set one and make sure that goal is realistic. Say your goal is that everyday you will wake up with the mindset that you will search, apply, and get the entire application process done that day. This may sound intimidating, but by marking one job off everyday you are getting closer to your end target: finding a job!

  1. Find a Central Place to Apply

Work smarter, not harder, right? Be smart about the time you are spending searching for jobs. Find a job board, like AgCareers.com, that provides a wide range of opportunities.

A job board can allow you to apply for many jobs on just one website. AgCareers.com even has the ability for you to upload your resume into their resume database. Taking advantage of the resume database allows employers to search for candidates within their parameters.

  1. Don’t Limit Yourself

During this process, please take account of what it is you really want. While focusing on your core skills and experience is important, don’t limit yourself to a specific path. Just because you went to school, for one thing, does not mean you are limited to that certain path your whole life.

Be open to new possibilities. It may surprise you how transferable your skills are and what you are capable of. See how many of these skills fit multiple roles in our career profiles!

  1. Understand the Reality

During my senior year in college, I felt like all I was doing was applying to jobs and again, never hearing back. We all know that feeling, it is very frustrating! A couple of things I grew to notice:

  • It is kind of normal.

The application and hiring process is not a quick one. Just make a mental note of that.

  • I was not alone.

This stage of applying and feeling like you are not moving forward in the hiring process a lot of the time is not really a “you” problem per se; a lot of people are going through the same exact thing.

  1. Seek Guidance

I know for some, asking for help is a last resort; try to get over that fear of “needing help” and seek guidance. The input and encouragement from others can provide valuable insights and help you navigate the job search process effectively. Not only could these mentors/ colleagues/ parents/ encourage us, but they could also:

  • Proofread your resume.
  • Help keep an eye out for open job roles.
  • Assist with practice interview questions.

Implementing these five tips can help you boost your motivation and enhance your chances of finding a rewarding job. Remember, the job search journey can be challenging, but you can achieve your job-hunting goals with the right mindset and approach. Hopefully, these tips will lead you to some inspiration in your job hunt! As always, you can find many career opportunities and helpful career advice on AgCareers.com.
