Reports to: Production Research Manager

Salary Range: $67,694 - $77,848 Exempt Employee   (based on experience and education)

A Brief Overview

  • Manages daily farming operations for both the sustainability and research farm, including soil preparation, planting, irrigation management, fertility management, pest and disease control, and crop rotation. 
  • Operates and maintains farm equipment such as tractors, mowers, and forklifts competently. 
  • Demonstrates a basic understanding of plant biology and related concepts.
  • Contributes to the development of sustainable farming practices with a goal of improved soil health, water conservation, enhanced biodiversity, and synthetic input reduction. 
  • Assists with planning, logistics, and evaluation of research and sustainability trials.
  • Possesses the physical ability to perform moderate to strenuous manual labor.
  • Follows guidance and instructions, handles tasks, and manages time effectively without constant oversight.
  • Complete all company training accordingly and follow company safety standards. 
  • Works in close collaboration with the Production Research Manager and relevant staff to carry out processes related to project goals.
  • Attends and contributes to mandatory company meetings. 
  • Assists with other aspects of the operation as needed throughout the season, which may include farm dinners, tours, and educational workshops. 
  • Occasional management of contract labor crews. 
  • Creates relationships with relevant public and private sustainable farming organizations. 
  • Is responsible for maintaining the required professional certification.
  • Submits monthly expenses and mileage reports properly and on time.

 

Essential Activities

  • Assists with research and sustainability trials.
  • Responsible for soil sample collection, organization and interpretation.
  • Completes company training.
  • Participates in relevant continued education and professional development.
  • Submits monthly expenses and mileage report.
  • Travel when necessary.

 

Qualifications

  • Preferred – bachelor’s degree in Agricultural, Horticulture, Agronomic Business, Pest Management, Crop Biotechnology, or related disciplines.
  • Required – 2-3 years of hands-on farming.
  • Required – 2-3 years of tractor driving experience.
  • Preferred – 1-3 years research trial experience.
  • Required – Valid driver's license and record in good standing; a commercial driver’s license is a plus


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of farm management practices.
  • Ability to operate and maintain farm equipment and automated or GPS-guided equipment.
  • Skilled tractor operator.
  • Ability to learn, understand, and help develop sustainable farming practices.
  • Ability to think critically when confronted with unexpected challenges.
  • Physical strength and stamina to perform manual labor in varied weather conditions.
  • Knowledge of plant biology and sustainable farming.
  • Skilled in collecting soil samples and interpreting soil test results.
  • Bilingual is a plus -Spanish
  • Experience with Microsoft Office & Excel.
