Senior Software Engineer 






The primary responsibilities of this role, Senior Software Engineer, are to: 


  • Develop information systems by designing, developing, and installing software solutions;
  • Determine operational feasibility by evaluating analysis, problem definition, requirements, solution development, and proposed solutions;
  • Develop software solutions by studying information needs, conferring with users, and studying systems flow, data usage, and work processes;
  • Write highly quality, efficient, maintainable and scalable code based on the specification;
  • Investigate problem areas;
  • Troubleshoots, debugs, and upgrades existing software;
  • Prepare, perform, and evaluate developer tests (static code checking and dynamic tests);
  • Follow the software development lifecycle;
  • Work daily with a team of software engineers;
  • Interact regularly with Business Users throughout the project lifecycle;
  • Engage with relevant technical teams to get support throughout the process, as needed;
  • Interact with engineers across the team and related teams;
  • Active in departmental teams and in interdepartmental teams;
  • Document and demonstrate solutions by developing documentation, flowcharts, layouts, diagrams, charts, code comments and clear code;
  • Prepare and install solutions by determining and designing system specifications, standards, and programming;
  • Estimate implementation effort and perform feasibility checks of requirements;
  • Improve operations by conducting systems analysis and recommending changes in policies and procedures;
  • Evaluation, development, review, refinement, and documentation of software maintenance procedures;
  • Protect operations by keeping information confidential;
  • Provide information by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing development and service issues;
  • Accomplish engineering and organization mission by completing related results as needed.

Your success will be driven by your demonstration of our LIFE values.  More specifically related to this position, Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following:


Required Qualifications:


  • University degree (Bachelor or Master) degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related technical discipline;
  • Proficiency in relevant programming languages and object-oriented design skills, application architecture and design patterns;
  • 2+ years of experience in Python programming;
  • 2+ years of experience in using MySQL or other relational databases;
  • Knowledge of professional software engineering and best practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations (any relevant platform environment, incl. cloud);
  • Experience in development of distributed/scalable systems and high-volume transaction applications;
  • Unit testing, version control (GIT, SVN, etc.), and peer code-reviews;
  • Code optimization and Coding guidelines (e.g., MISRA) and tools for checking them;
  • Knowledge of the functionality of code generators, compilers, linkers, and other tools relevant for the generation of source and binary code or corresponding parts of the toolchain used;
  • Knowledge of current development methods for the industrialization of software development (Continuous Integration/Testing/Delivery, etc.);
  • Software development lifecycles (SDLC); agile methodologies like Agile/SCRUM, test-driven development, and tools like Bitbucket;
  • Knowledge of usability design and data warehousing techniques;
  • Ability to perform business domain analysis and business process modelling;
  • Problem-solving skills;

  • Verbal and written communication skills;
  • Ability to challenge and convince the various stakeholders involved in any project.


Preferred Qualifications:


  • Experience serving as technical lead throughout the full software development lifecycle, from conception, architecture definition, detailed design, scoping, planning, implementation, testing to documentation, delivery and maintenance;
  • Experience working in Biotech fields (Agricultural, genomics, pharmaceutical, etc.).
