Safety Specialist - Cedar Rapids, IA

Position Summary:

Safety Specialist is responsible for supporting the daily health and safety functions of the plant a assisting with the overall performance of the Cedar Rapids complex. The Cedar Rapids, IA Complex is comprised of a Corn Dry Mill, Corn Wet Mill, Cogeneration and Water Treatment Operations. The facilities in total employ ~450 operation colleagues and ~250 contractors.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop and lead a culture of behavioral safety and related principles.
  • Knowledge and understanding of a multitude of health, safety regulations and policies with the ability to communicate the requirements effectively and assist the facility with implementation and management.
  • Collect and organize data from various sources, ensuring accuracy and integrity.
  • Perform analytics and statistical analysis to identify trends, and focus areas of improvement.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of health and safety programs and policies through consistent monitoring and auditing.
  • Build management and employee dedication and enthusiasm for safety through effective Leadership and Influence.
  • Lead, support and encourage the actions needed that are identified by leading indicators and goals.
  • Act as a Champion and Mentor for colleague safety engagement that comes in many forms.
  • Lead and provide oversight of injured colleague cases.
  • Lead or have integral involvement with incident investigations to determine root cause and recommendations for corrective actions.
  • Spend a significant amount of time in the plant being a safety presence ensuring all safety programs are comprehensive, understood and being followed.
  • Ensure compliance in reporting and document retention for federal and state requirements.
  • Develop and present safety training for new hires, contractors, and location colleagues as required and as needed.
  • Support and drive continuous improvement by participating in Performance Excellence.
Requirements:
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with all levels of personnel, other ADM locations, as well as outside vendors.
  • Must be organized, possess time management skills and be able to meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and other computer related skills.
Preferred Skills:
  • Trainer/Presentation Skills preferred.
Education & Experience:
  • High School Diploma/GED, required.
  • A Bachelor degree in Occupational Health & Safety field is preferred
  • Work experience of minimum of 5 years in health and/or safety field preferred.
Environment/Physical:
  • Occasional work around dust and various chemicals and caustics.
  • Occasional work around vibrating and loud equipment on an occasional basis.
  • Work on slippery/uneven surfaces and at high elevations and on occasional basis.
  • Work in high and low temperature extremes on occasional basis.
  • Must be able to walk 1-3 hours.
  • Must be able to sit 5-8 hours.
  • Must be able to squat/kneel on an occasional basis.
  • Must be able to climb stairs/ladders on an occasional basis.
  • Must be able to lift up to 25lbs from waist to shoulder on an occasional basis
