General Purpose and Scope of Position: 

Wilbur-Ellis is seeking a Field Scout I for the Cascades region to be responsible for pest trap placement and monitoring/recording pest activity of various crops and pests. The trapper works closely with the support teams and consultants. This is a seasonal position starting February 1-October 31st.

 

Key Skills and Abilities Include:

  • Knowledge and/or experience with agricultural operations (preferred)
  • Intermediate level proficiency with standard software including MS Office Suite
  • Ability to safely operate a vehicle within state laws and company policies and guidelines
  • Requires excellent interpersonal skills between both customers and fellow employees
  • Ability to repetitively bend, kneel and walk long distances while working in a non-climate-controlled environment and outside in inclement weather
  • Excellent math skills and the ability to maintain accurate counts
  • Dependability/reliability. Occasionally may need to work Saturdays
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Willingness and desire to work overtime hours during busy seasons

  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred but not required

 

Specific Responsibilities and Key Deliverables Include:

Trapping

  • Prepare traps for placement in the field
  • Install traps in fields. Inspect and monitor every week.
  • Maintain data counts of the number of pests trapped
  • Use GPS technology to map fields
  • Comply with company safety standards
  • Collect soil, fruit, tissue, and other samples. Label samples and deliver to the office for processing and shipment to the lab. Complete TNS sample orders/other processing paperwork as directed.
  • Collaborate with other support teams in the Cascades
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Irrigation Water Management Field Technician

  • Aid in determining new locations for soil moisture equipment
  • Install soil moisture monitoring equipment and weather stations
  • Basic maintenance and troubleshooting of telemetry equipment and LoRa gateway network
  • Ensure data integrity through station upkeep
  • Collaborate with other technicians in the Cascades

 

Compensation and Benefits:

  • In compliance with all states and cities that require transparency of pay, the base compensation for this position ranges from $13.51 - $18 per hour.  Note that wages may vary based on location, skills, and experience.
