Western Applied Research Corporation (WARC) is seeking a motivated and experienced Research Associate to join our research team. This position provides an exciting opportunity to contribute to applied agricultural research, work directly with producers and industry partners, and help deliver practical research results to Saskatchewan’s agriculture sector.

About the Position

• Reporting to the Research Manager, the Research Associate will assist with the planning, development, implementation and management of field research and demonstration projects.
• The Research Associate will also play an important role in securing new research opportunities, developing project proposals, managing project budgets and communicating research findings through reports, presentations, extension events and digital platforms.

Key Responsibilities

Field Research

• Assist with the planning and implementation of field research and demonstration projects.
• Coordinate and conduct field activities, including seeding, treatment applications, plot maintenance, data collection, harvest and sample processing.
• Conduct field scouting and maintain high-quality research plots.
• Develop and implement quality control procedures to ensure research is conducted according to approved protocols and contracts.
• Analyze and interpret research data and prepare reports to meet project deadlines.

Project Development & Management

• Identify research opportunities and emerging issues relevant to Saskatchewan agriculture.
• Collaborate with researchers, consultants, agronomists and industry representatives to develop research protocols and projects.
• Develop project proposals and funding applications.
• Ensure project timelines, reporting requirements and contractual obligations are met.

Leadership & Teamwork

• Provide leadership and supervision to research agronomists, technicians and summer students.
• Work collaboratively with WARC staff and external research partners.

Technology Transfer & Communications

• Prepare research reports, presentations, posters, factsheets and other communications for producers, agronomists and researchers.
• Present research findings at WARC and other extension events.
• Represent WARC at industry meetings, conferences, tradeshows and stakeholder events.
• Work with government specialists, commodity organizations, agronomists and other partners to ensure research results are effectively communicated.

Qualifications

Required:

• Degree or diploma in Agriculture, Agronomy or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• Experience with field research and the ability to operate small-plot research equipment.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
• Valid driver’s licence.
• Legal entitlement to work in Canada.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills.
• Ability to work independently while contributing effectively as part of a team.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Demonstrated leadership abilities.

Assets:

• Experience in crop or plant science, soil science or agronomy.
• Experience developing research proposals or securing project funding.
• Experience with agricultural research data collection and analysis.
• Experience communicating technical information to producers and industry audiences.
