The Taurus Group of Companies is currently recruiting for a Chief Financial Officer, based at our Active AgriScience office in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.
Taurus Group of Companies
Taurus Agricultural Marketing was founded in 2001 with a bold goal: to redefine fertility in Canadian agriculture. What began as two agronomists challenging the status quo has grown into a powerhouse of agronomic innovation, distribution, and product development.
Today, the Taurus Group of Companies unites Taurus Agricultural Marketing, our boots on the ground, agronomy first distribution and retail execution team; Active AgriScience Canada, our science driven research, formulation, and manufacturing division; and Active AgriScience Australia, our global extension, bringing made in Canada technology to new climates and regions.
In 2024, Taurus acquired full ownership of Active AgriScience, cementing a partnership over a decade in the making and laying the groundwork for future expansion.
Why This Role
The 2024 acquisition brought two companies, and two sets of financial habits, under one roof. This role exists to make them one: a single financial function built for a group that both sells and manufactures. You will lead finance for Taurus Agricultural Marketing and Active AgriScience together, with the Active AgriScience side building real inventory and product costing discipline for the first time. Both entities share ownership and strategic direction, and this role is designed to give that shared leadership one clear financial voice.
Position Details
Term: Permanent, Full Time
Location: Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, based at the Active AgriScience office
Reports To: President, Taurus Agricultural Marketing and President, Active AgriScience
Role Overview
As Chief Financial Officer, you will be the senior financial leader for the Taurus Group, setting financial strategy and direction for both Taurus Agricultural Marketing and Active AgriScience while also owning the operational finance work that runs the business day to day. You will absorb and elevate the current financial controller function at Taurus Agricultural Marketing, and build financial and inventory discipline at Active AgriScience for the first time.
This is a role for a financial leader who can do both: set the group’s long term financial direction with ownership and the Shareholders Group, and close the books personally when the business needs it. Early on, that balance will lean operational. As the group grows, so will the finance function, and so will this role.
In This Role, You Will
STRATEGIC LEADERSHIP
- Lead the group’s overall financial strategy across Taurus Agricultural Marketing and Active AgriScience, including long term planning, budgeting, forecasting, and capital allocation
- Serve as a trusted financial advisor to the President of Taurus Agricultural Marketing and the President of Active AgriScience, helping shape strategic direction and enterprise priorities
- Partner directly with the Shareholders Group on financial performance, major decisions, and risk
- Establish a disciplined approach to evaluating investments and initiatives, ensuring clear ROI and alignment with business objectives
- Deliver timely, data driven insight on business performance, growth opportunities, and profitability across both entities
- Build financial reporting, dashboards, and KPIs that improve visibility and decision making across the group
- Drive operational efficiency and cost discipline while balancing investment in long term growth
- Champion modern finance systems, process improvement, and automation across the group
- Own cash flow, working capital strategy, banking relationships, and financial risk management, including foreign exchange exposure
- Support future strategic initiatives, including acquisitions and integrations, building on the 2024 acquisition of Active AgriScience
- Build and lead the finance function as the group grows, with accountability for people, process, and results
DAY TO DAY FINANCIAL OPERATIONS
