Role Purpose
Responsible for performing assigned tasks under the supervision of the Growing Team in support of growing crops for breeding, product development, research trialing, marketing, and elite stock plants for Flowers R&D.
Accountabilities
Irrigate and fertilize crops within assigned sections under the supervision of the Growing Team Accurately assess the proper water and fertility needs of crops and be responsible for executing irrigation decisions, i.e., timing, frequency, and volume applied Ensure plants are receiving proper nutrient levels according to growing protocols and specifications Mix and apply fertilizers at specified rates Measure EC and pH levels across various crops and perform proper record keeping. Monitor and communicate EC and pH variances to growing team Collect plant tissue and media samples for submission to laboratory Proactively monitor and scout plants for early detection of insects, diseases, and viruses. Report issues to Growing Team Responsible for chemical applications that occur within assigned sections. Mix and apply pesticides wearing all appropriate PPE including spray suits and respirators while using high pressure sprayers or other spray equipment Maintain and update crop activity records, documents, chemical application logs, etc. Keep assigned growing areas clean and sanitized Ensure all HSES and phytosanitary protocols are implemented, followed, and enforced Perform additional assigned tasks as needed in support of growing (transplanting, plant maintenance, pot filling, spacing, movement, greenhouse maintenance, etc.)

Skills:

Critical knowledge
High School diploma or equivalent or greaterrequiredCritical experience
2+ years of relevant growing, trialing, or agriculture work experience

Critical technical, professional and personal capabilities
Ability to obtain a California pesticide applicators license Experience in horticulture practices in greenhouse and field Motivation and drive for continuous crop quality improvement and efficiency Outstanding team player Ability to identify problems and propose solutions
