At Syngenta, we are working to build the most collaborative and trusted team in agriculture that provides leading seeds innovations to enhance the prosperity of farmers. We are looking for a Germplasm Analytics Leader to direct a team of scientists who will deliver innovative analytics capabilities used to deliver novel insights into germplasm diversity, its dynamics, exploitation and conservation. In this role, you will develop and execute a strategy for the discovery and development of advanced analytics to support data driven decisions in our Seeds product pipeline. We are looking for a leader who has experience in directing collaborative and multidisciplinary teams in delivering innovation at scale with precise, reproducible and automated analytics solutions. This individual will be responsible for developing a team culture with high intellectual rigor and sound engineering principles to deliver enabling technologies that will disrupt the status quo and drive continuous improvement to our breeding processes.

Accountabilities

  • Establish a comprehensive germplasm analytics strategy for Seeds R&D to enable a robust data-driven decision-making platform

  • Develop and sustain a highly engaged team of germplasm diversity and management analytics experts and foster the growth of scientific and leadership talent

  • Build effective partnerships with IT, analytics and data science leaders, crop subject matter experts, and external experts to continually translate genetics, genomics, data science, plant breeding and information technology into business value through enhanced analytics and decision making

  • Ensure implementation of best practices for germplasm analytics and lead the development of tools, protocols and methodologies to broadly disseminate this information and assist in the training of Syngenta staff as appropriate

  • As a member of the Genetics Leadership Team, contribute to the development and implementation of analytics to support germplasm management strategies and initiatives


  • Skills:

    • PhD or equivalent in Biology, Computational Biology, Genetics, Computer Sciences, Math or Computational Biology or related fields with at least 3 years of experience

    • Experience applying data science in a scientific/R&D environment with technical knowledge in big data, artificial intelligence, machine learning and its application to solve biological problems

    • Experience in advanced analytics along with fluency in R and Python

    • Demonstrated strong record of scientific achievement publications, patents, etc.

    • Experience working with the end-to-end modelling process, including problem formulation and model development, calibration, validation, application and deployment

    • Experience partnering with an IT organization to design, develop and support software applications

    • Individual must be authorized to work in the United States for Syngenta without work authorization sponsorship now or in the future
