Silver Creek Ag
Silver Creek Ag is an agricultural purchasing organization that helps farmers reduce input costs by providing access to quality crop-protection products direct through manufacturers and high performing seed varieties through Becks Hybrids. Through coordinated purchasing, efficient distribution, and straightforward financing options, we give participating growers greater buying power while simplifying the product-ordering process. Our team works closely with each customer to identify seasonal needs, coordinate product requests, and deliver dependable service throughout the growing season.
Position Overview
Silver Creek Ag is seeking a motivated, relationship-oriented Customer Account Manager to become the primary point of contact for participating farmers and prospective customers.
This position combines customer enrollment, account management, and agricultural product coordination. The initial challenge is helping prospective customers understand the Silver Creek Ag model and guiding them through enrollment. Once customers begin participating and see the potential savings, the role becomes focused primarily on communication, relationship management, and helping customers submit their product requests accurately and on time.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with agricultural industry experience who is ready to take ownership of an important customer-facing role and grow with the company.
Primary Responsibilities
Customer Enrollment and Business Development
- Identify and contact prospective farmer customers within Silver Creek Ag’s target markets.
- Clearly explain how the Silver Creek Ag purchasing model works and the benefits it provides.
- Build trust with prospective customers and guide them through the application and enrollment process.
- Follow up consistently with qualified prospects until they make a decision.
- Develop referrals and new customer opportunities through existing members and agricultural relationships.
- Represent Silver Creek Ag professionally at customer meetings, industry events, field days, and other agricultural gatherings.
- Maintain an organized pipeline of prospective customers and provide regular progress reports to ownership.
Account Management
- Serve as the primary point of contact for participating Silver Creek Ag customers.
- Develop strong, long-term relationships with customers by being responsive, dependable, and knowledgeable.
- Maintain regular contact with customers throughout the growing season.
- Keep customers informed about product-request periods, purchasing opportunities, deadlines, financing options, and other important information.
- Proactively follow up with customers to ensure product requests are submitted accurately and on time.
- Help customers understand the ordering process and resolve routine questions or issues.
- Coordinate with ownership, suppliers, and administrative personnel when a customer needs additional assistance.
- Monitor customer participation and identify accounts that need additional communication or support.
- Maintain accurate inventories, customer records, contact notes, product interests, and follow-up schedules.
Customer Retention and Growth
- Help customers receive the full value of their Silver Creek Ag participation.
- Encourage customers to increase participation when doing so provides a clear financial or operational benefit.
- Identify additional products and purchasing opportunities that may benefit existing customers.
- Gather customer feedback and communicate recurring needs or concerns to ownership.
- Assist in improving customer communication, enrollment materials, and account-management procedures.
- Take responsibility for customer satisfaction, retention, and overall account participation.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate understands agriculture and is comfortable communicating directly with farmers. This person does not need to be a long-time agricultural chemical salesperson, but must have enough industry familiarity to understand crop-production terminology, seasonal purchasing decisions, and the importance of timely follow-up.
The successful candidate will be motivated, organized, persistent, and willing to take ownership of customer relationships. This role requires someone who follows through without constant supervision and understands that consistent communication is often more important than aggressive selling.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in agriculture, agricultural retail, crop consulting, farm management, agricultural lending, seed, fertilizer, crop protection, equipment sales, or a related field.
- General familiarity with row-crop production and agricultural inputs.
- Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to explain a purchasing program clearly and confidently.
- Self-motivated, dependable, and comfortable working independently.
- Organized and able to manage multiple customers, deadlines, and follow-up activities.
- Comfortable using email, text messaging, spreadsheets, customer-management software, and other basic business technology.
- Willingness to travel within the assigned service area to meet with customers and prospects.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- College degree in agriculture, business, or a related field is preferred but not required when supported by relevant experience.
Characteristics Important for Success
- Consistent and persistent without being overly aggressive.
- Comfortable initiating conversations and asking for a customer’s business.
- Responsive and easy for customers to reach.
- Able to earn the trust of farmers and agricultural professionals.
- Strong follow-through and attention to detail.
- Willing to learn Silver Creek Ag’s products, processes, and value proposition.
- Motivated by measurable results and the opportunity to grow professionally.
- Able to balance new-customer development with excellent service to existing accounts.
- Honest, professional, and committed to protecting confidential customer and company information.
Measures of Success
Performance will be evaluated using factors such as:
- New qualified customers enrolled.
- Conversion of qualified prospects into participating customers.
- Customer retention and satisfaction.
- Percentage of active customers submitting product requests.
- Timeliness and accuracy of customer product requests.
- Growth in participation and purchasing volume among existing accounts.
- Quality and consistency of customer communication.
- Accuracy of customer records and follow-up activities.
- Responsiveness to customers and company leadership.
- Overall contribution to Silver Creek Ag’s growth and reputation.
Training and Transition
The Customer Account Manager will initially work closely with Silver Creek Ag’s owners to learn:
- The Silver Creek Ag business model and customer value proposition.
- Customer enrollment and application procedures.
- Product-request schedules and ordering processes.
- Current customer relationships and account history.
- Product categories and purchasing opportunities.
- Internal communication and recordkeeping procedures.
Existing customer relationships will be transitioned gradually, with introductions and support from ownership. The expectation is that the Customer Account Manager will become the lead contact for customers and assume increasing responsibility as familiarity and trust are established.
Compensation
Silver Creek Ag intends to offer a competitive compensation package consisting of a base salary and performance-based incentives. Incentive compensation may be tied to new customers enrolled, active customer participation, customer retention, and growth in purchasing volume.
Specific compensation will be based on the candidate’s agricultural experience, existing relationships, qualifications, and ability to contribute to the growth of Silver Creek Ag.
Employment Expectations
This position requires regular communication with customers, including calls, texts, emails, and in-person visits. Agricultural purchasing decisions are seasonal, and certain periods of the year may require increased customer contact and follow-up.
The person selected for this position must be willing to take ownership of the customer-management process, maintain consistent communication, and represent Silver Creek Ag with professionalism and integrity.
For this position, compensation will be built around a reasonable base salary plus incentives for three separate results:
- Successfully enrolling new customers.
- Getting enrolled customers to submit their first product request.
- Maintaining or increasing participation among existing accounts.
