Job Description:

We are seeking a highly motivated professional who brings significant leadership expertise and knowledge of Canadian agriculture, with a proven ability to work collaboratively with members, staff, partners, and stakeholders to advance the Canadian seed industry in accessing and promoting leading genetics.

The Role
This is a unique and rewarding executive position to lead a respected national, member-based organization at an important time for Canada’s seed sector. The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) provides overall leadership, management, and strategic direction for SeCan, working closely with the Board of Directors, members, and industry partners to advance the organization’s mission and priorities. Operating within the Carver Policy Governance® framework, the CEO is accountable for achieving organizational objectives in alignment with Board policies while fostering a high-performing culture and ensuring operational excellence, financial sustainability, strong member value, and the organization’s long-term success.


Primary Responsibilities

  • provide vision and long-term strategic leadership, aligned with Board-defined Ends, for the sustainable growth of the Canadian seed industry; 
  • accountable for the management, operations and administration of the SeCan organization, including leading, mentoring and supporting a high performing team of professionals;
  • ensure the organization delivers clear and measurable value to members and remains responsive to evolving member needs;
  • clearly communicate SeCan’s vision, and develop, collaborate, and maintain significant stakeholder, partner, and regulator relationships, advocating for organizational interests; and,
  • provide an informed and trusted voice to communicate SeCan’s position on issues and opportunities affecting the seed industry in Canada. 


Qualifications

  • post-secondary education including a bachelor’s degree or diploma in agriculture and / or business; MBA or master’s degree in agriculture / or related disciplines considered an asset;
  • proven visionary and leadership skills; ability to translate vision into action;
  • strong executive management skills: experience in strategic business planning and implementation, financial management, and human resources;
  • broad knowledge of Canadian agriculture with direct knowledge and experience in the Canadian seed industry considered a significant asset;
  • exceptional skills in developing and maintaining strong business relationships with growers, industry, government, and academic networks;
  • excellent communicator; articulate, strong listener and respectful;
  • significant collaborator and team player; able to negotiate, facilitate and share ideas;
  • exhibits integrity, sound judgement, and high ethics; and,
  • ability to travel domestically and internationally as required. 


Salary commensurate with experience, qualifications and ability.
