Randolph Farm Operations 5995 Highway 330, Owenton, KY (Owen County)
Randolph Farm Operations, a registered Black Angus seedstock operation, is seeking a hands-on Farm Assistant to support equipment operation and maintenance, livestock care, and fencing/infrastructure work. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, mechanically capable, comfortable working independently, and able to exercise sound judgment on equipment operation over challenging terrain and animal handling protocols.
Key Responsibilities:
- Equipment Operation & Maintenance Safely operate all farm equipment, including tractors, 15' and 20' bushhogs, haybine, disc mower, baler, arm mower, flail mower, rock picker, box blade, loader, and grapple attachments
- Operate bushhogs on slopes up to 25 degrees following proper operating procedures to avoid equipment damage — including crossing ditches and low spots at an angle and raising implements when tractor wheels drop
- Operate hand tools including chainsaws, weed eaters, and other power equipment
- Perform routine and preventive maintenance on all equipment
- Maintain inventory of fuels, oils, filters, and maintenance/repair parts
- Maintain accurate equipment repair and maintenance records
- Exercise judgment on when to perform repairs in-house versus when to engage outside repair services
- Animal Care Assist with all aspects of animal chores and daily care
- Build and maintain temporary fencing for rotational grazing and herd management
- Follow established calving procedures and animal handling protocols
- Assist with general herd health and handling tasks as needed Fencing & Infrastructure
- Build and repair fence of various types (woven wire, high-tensile, electric, board, etc.)
- Operate a post driver
- Hang gates correctly so they swing freely and fit properly
Qualifications
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to doing work correctly the first time
- Demonstrated experience operating farm equipment, particularly mowing/haying equipment on hilly or sloped terrain Mechanical aptitude and experience with routine equipment maintenance and troubleshooting
- Experience with livestock handling, ideally cattle; familiarity with calving procedures a plus
- Fencing construction and repair experience
- Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and use good judgment
- Valid driver's license; ability to operate a post driver and other specialized attachments
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to perform physical labor outdoors in all weather conditions
- Ability to lift, carry, and maneuver equipment, fencing materials, and supplies
- Comfortable working on uneven and sloped terrain
Work Environment:
- Full-time, on-site position at a working registered Black Angus cattle operation in Owen County, Kentucky.
- Schedule may require flexibility around seasonal demands such as haying, calving, and breeding season.
