At Plant and Food Research we conduct research that adds value to fruit, vegetable, field crop and food products, by providing quality breeding research and world class cultivars.
Within the Annual Crops Group, you will contribute quality breeding research to our Potato Breeding Programme to enable delivery of new high-value cultivars to partners and international collaborators. Your ability to design and execute quality research, underpinned by technical leadership and mentorship of your colleagues within the programme, will be key to this delivery. Working in a modern plant breeding facility, you will have access to significant scientific, technical and business support from across the Institute.
To succeed in this role you’ll have a passion for vegetable crop research and proven ability in planning research projects that provide genetic and other solutions to address issues which have arisen (or could arise) for potato producers, buyers and consumers. You will have a postgraduate degree, preferably a PhD, in horticulture or plant science with relevance to plant breeding or genetics, combined with at least two years practical breeding experience in potato or other horticultural crops.
You will be willing and able to undertake physically demanding work in the field in variable weather conditions and have the flexibility to travel nationally and internationally. To apply please click on APPLY TO THIS POSITION
