Pipestone Emerging Leaders Program (PEL)

The Pipestone Emerging Leaders (PEL) Program is an intensive leadership development program designed for ambitious individuals who want to grow their management, production, and team leadership skills within the swine industry.

 

Through hands-on farm experience, mentorship, leadership training, and exposure to multiple production systems, you'll gain the knowledge and confidence needed to step into leadership roles across PIPESTONE's operations.

 

What You'll Do

Develop Leadership Skills

  • Build leadership, communication, and employee engagement skills.
  • Learn how to effectively lead teams and collaborate with employees at all levels.
  • Gain experience in decision-making, problem-solving, and team management.

 

Master Swine Production

  • Receive hands-on training in farrowing, gestation, gilt development, and overall herd management.
  • Learn industry-leading animal husbandry practices that promote animal welfare and production efficiency.
  • Develop expertise in maintaining herd health and reducing stress to maximize performance.

 

Gain Business & Management Experience

  • Understand how production results impact business performance and profitability.
  • Complete production records accurately and utilize data to support decision-making.
  • Learn production, safety, HR, and biosecurity best practices.
  • Potential to experience a variety of PIPESTONE facilities to gain experience with different production systems, locations, and management styles.
  • Build relationships with leaders across the organization and broaden your industry perspective.

 

Champion Safety & Compliance

  • Follow and support all animal welfare, biosecurity, and safety protocols.
  • Promote a culture of accountability and operational excellence.

 

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree in Agriculture or related field, or equivalent experience
  • 2+ years of swine production experience Strong leadership potential and desire to grow into management roles
  • Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
  • Willingness to relocate and travel as part of the program

 

Work Environment

  • Hands-on work in modern swine production facilities
  • Exposure to livestock, dust, odors, and varying temperatures
  • Fast-paced agricultural environment focused on animal care and team success
  • Opportunity to work in gestation, farrowing, and nursery environments

 

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods (8-10 hours daily)
  • Frequent bending, squatting, kneeling, and reaching
  • Regular lifting of 3-20 pounds
  • Occasional lifting, pulling, or moving up to 50 pounds

 

Additional Requirements

  • Ability to work weekends as needed
  • Reliable transportation for travel between facilities and meetings
