Job Title: Growing Area Supervisor (Lake Worth)


Summary:  ONI-Boynton Beach, LLC seeks a Growing Area Supervisor for a commercial-scale indoor Hydroponic Greenhouse facility in South Florida. 


The facility is currently under construction, with commercial operation anticipated to begin in 2019, and will produce leafy greens for human consumption under strict quality control standards. 


The Growing Area Supervisor is responsible for managing the operational activities of the facility in a manner that adheres to all ONI Policies, Procedures and Best Practices, as well as all applicable Regulatory Agency requirements (Food Safety, OSHA, EPA, etc.). The Growing Area Supervisor is also responsible to safely, efficiently and economically manage the operation of the facility in accordance with the approved budget, OEM recommendations, and Industry "Best Accepted Practices."  The Growing Area Supervisor ensures the Growing Area and personnel are prepared to meet facility demands and proactively monitors operations for efficiency and safety.


Duties and Responsibilities include the following.  Other duties may be assigned. 


  • Staff, train and direct facility personnel in the growing area, promoting a team atmosphere and cross-training mentality
  • Interface with other Supervisors and the Farm Manager
  • Monitor crop development and help to oversee greenhouse operations
  • Assist in greenhouse crop yields, safety and quality compliance
  • Adapt plans and adjust priorities as needed to meet operational challenges
  • Active in the implementation of Safety Protocol, SOPs and SSOPs
  • Ensure proper compliance with all applicable federal, state and local regulatory agency requirements
  • Maximize plant efficiency and capacity to meet or exceed plant design parameters and operating goals
  • Responsible for ensuring that all applicable employees are trained in lock-out, tag-out
  • Coordinate the proper use and hiring of contractor services, as necessary.
  • Work directly with Maintenance Team to oversee Action Plans in place
  • Serve as technical advisor to growing area personnel utilizing systematic problem-solving methods
  • Maintain a good working relationship with customers, suppliers, and the community
  • Manage and monitor the performance of all growing area operational events, including incident reviews and root-cause analyses, as required
  • Ensure that all required training and qualification programs are properly implemented
  • Work in conjunction with the Farm Manager to ensure the Growing Area and Operating Procedures/ Standing Orders are routinely reviewed to verify they are up to date and valid
  • Carry out other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Farm Manager
  • Must be able to work at a steady pace and be detail-oriented
  • Must have a reliable form of transportation
  • Open availability to work M-S
  • Must be available to work weekends as needed

Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; and five years related experience and/or training (preferably in hydroponics); or equivalent combination of education and experience including 2+ years of supervisory/management experience.


Language Ability:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.  Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.


Math Ability:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.


Reasoning Ability:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.


Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Word; Microsoft Excel; Microsoft Explorer; Microsoft Outlook; Microsoft Access and Microsoft PowerPoint.


Supervisory Responsibilities:

Directly supervises 3-5 employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include helping to train employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
