This position reports to the General Manager, Patience Lake within the Potash business unit. The Maintenance Superintendent is responsible for directing and controlling all maintenance (reactive, preventative, and predictive) relative to mill and minefield equipment, machinery, and components in a safe and efficient manner. Maintenance may be categorized as repair, modification, installation, and erection.  The Superintendent is involved in various areas, including maintenance coordination, planning and budgeting, employee relations and performance management, and public relations. A key component to the above is to foster strong safety leadership and to promote this throughout the department. The Maintenance Superintendent will also manage the capital program on site and ensure this is coordinated in an effective manner with all departments.
 
What you will do:
  • Support the development and implementation of Nutrien Global standards and Government Regulations to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the Surface Maintenance Department
  • Play a key role in the support, development and implementation of the Nutrien Potash PSIM program
  • Achieve desired standards in all aspects of the job including safety, employee relations, production, maintenance execution and cost-effective utilization of resources available
  • Manage the Patience Lake Capital portfolio ensuring engineering resources are efficiently and effectively utilized
  • Preparation and management of the yearly capital budget and five- and twenty-year plans
  • Supervise the process and maintenance engineers to ensure technical support for the Maintenance, Operations and Engineering functions
  • Guide all maintenance activities (reactive and preventative) relative to Mill and Minefield equipment, machinery, and components
  • Collaborate daily with the Mill Operations Department to ensure safe production and maintenance is performed to achieve Divisional requirements
  • Oversee the planning, execution, and follow-up relative to all mill and minefield maintenance activities on a day-to-day and project basis
  • Effectively manage the integration of human and physical resources towards performance is of main concern to the incumbent
  • Coordinate the activities of maintenance with those of the operating departments to minimize the occurrence of unscheduled downtime and to ensure access to equipment during planned maintenance work
  • Develope, implement and maintain suitable policies and procedures to allow for the reactive and preventative maintenance of all surface equipment in tune with time, cost, and safety parameters
  • Maintain a constant awareness of new or innovative maintenance technology that may be applied to existing systems to affect operational improvements
  • Monitor and analyze the performance of the maintenance organization relative to effectiveness of procedures and quality of personnel against current and future requirements
  • Capital and Maintenance Planning and Budgeting Activities:
  • Formulate, adhere to, and control budgets within the department without losing sight of production priorities and realistic application of resourcesControl expenditures and work to ensure the budget dovetails with production results and requirementsProvide advice and input to divisional management matters, including planning and execution of special projectsRecommend selection of future machinery purchases and applications. Play an active role in the expansion process
What you will bring:
  • Technical degree in an Engineering discipline is preferred
  • Experience in project management, maintenance execution and construction activities associated with refinery environment
  • Excellent knowledge of mining surface operations
  • Strong leadership skills to help bring accountability to your team by creating a supportive and motivating work environment
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to manage conflict and problem solve
