This is a summer internship which will last approximately 12 weeks.
What you will do:
Provide technical support for the Operating Units of the plant which produce Ammonia, Urea, Nitric Acid and Urea Ammonium Nitrate (UAN)
Learn the chemical processes for production of ammonia, urea, nitric acid and urea ammonium nitrate
Develop and monitor key performance indicators of the production units
Identify improvement opportunities of the units
Provide technical support for troubleshooting plant issues and implementing corrective actions
Learn and participate in the Process Safety Management (PSM) program, including Management of Change (MOC), Pre-Startup Safety Review (PSSR), Process Hazard Analysis (PHA), Process Safety Information (PSI), and Operating Procedures
Report on causes of production losses and downtime
Report on plant efficiency and determining optimization of production rates
Update Piping & Instrument Diagrams (P&IDS) and Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs)
Monitor performance of plant equipment such as pumps, compressors, turbines, heat exchangers, separation towers, reactors, etc.
Monitor catalyst performance for the production of ammonia and nitric acid
Perform heat and material balances on different systems in the facility
Develop process models using Aspen or HYSYS
Other duties as assigned
What you will bring:
Active pursuit of a Bachelors’ Degree in Chemical Engineering or equivalent degree program
Must be willing to exercise engineering knowledge gained through studies and learn “real world” application
Must be a self-starter, energetic, and proactive
Working conditions are office environment and field work within the facility
Must have strong and proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite
Ability to obtain a TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential) card
