This is a summer internship which will last approximately 12 weeks.
 
 
What you will do:
  • Provide technical support for the Operating Units of the plant which produce Ammonia, Urea, Nitric Acid and Urea Ammonium Nitrate (UAN)
  • Learn the chemical processes for production of ammonia, urea, nitric acid and urea ammonium nitrate
  • Develop and monitor key performance indicators of the production units
  • Identify improvement opportunities of the units
  • Provide technical support for troubleshooting plant issues and implementing corrective actions
  • Learn and participate in the Process Safety Management (PSM) program, including Management of Change (MOC), Pre-Startup Safety Review (PSSR), Process Hazard Analysis (PHA), Process Safety Information (PSI), and Operating Procedures
  • Report on causes of production losses and downtime
  • Report on plant efficiency and determining optimization of production rates
  • Update Piping & Instrument Diagrams (P&IDS) and Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs)
  • Monitor performance of plant equipment such as pumps, compressors, turbines, heat exchangers, separation towers, reactors, etc.
  • Monitor catalyst performance for the production of ammonia and nitric acid
  • Perform heat and material balances on different systems in the facility
  • Develop process models using Aspen or HYSYS
  • Other duties as assigned
What you will bring:
  • Active pursuit of a Bachelors’ Degree in Chemical Engineering or equivalent degree program
  • Must be willing to exercise engineering knowledge gained through studies and learn “real world” application
  • Must be a self-starter, energetic, and proactive
  • Working conditions are office environment and field work within the facility
  • Must have strong and proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to obtain a TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential) card
