This position reports to the Superintendent, Mine Operations. The Mine General Supervisor.
What you will do:
  • Manage the activities of the four Nutrien Shift Supervisors and their crews, as well as all contractors supporting Mine Operations activities
  • Effectively communicate and collaborate with department heads, engineers, shift supervisors, direct reports, trainers, safety and environmental personnel, etc.
  • Develop and implement changes necessary to enhance safety, improve productivity, and lower production costs
  • Make recommendations in relations to measuring equipment performance/efficiency, working conditions, and the quality of work produced
  • Coordinate dewatering efforts of the mine, ensuring water is directed to the proper downstream destinations, coordinating these efforts with Prestrip and Mine Services departments, as needed
  • Oversee maintenance, reliability & ownership of all mine area equipment, including leased, rental, and owned equipment
  • Supervise and lead employees to be responsible for their safety, and environmental awareness while maintaining a good working relationship between management and labor
  • Prepare and receive requisitions to acquire needed supplies and equipment, needed contractors, and direct the efficient utilization of assigned resources
  • Manage contract budget effectively while meeting reliability expectation and production goals including weekly invoice review & receiving, purchase order creation, overtime approval, etc.
  • Collaborate with Mine Area Pipe Crew General Supervisor to provide an annual 5-year pipe forecast for water & ore pipelines for budgeting purposes
  • Assist in annual budget development
  • Work in conjunction with Mine Engineer & Lead Maintenance Specialist to develop short & long-term mine plans & oversee execution of these mine plans by the operating crews
  • Utilize basic computer skills to update department documents in Microsoft Excel, Word & Power Point, as well as the EAM system for Procurement & Asset Management activities
  • Provide leadership, expertise and direction for Mine Area operations & maintenance activities
  • Ensure work activities are conducted safely by competent personnel and in accordance with schedules, plans, laws, regulations, standards and operating procedures
What you will bring:
  • High School Diploma, along with demonstrated and related equivalent experience
  • Technical Degree or Bachelor of Science Degree in relevant field, is preferred
  • 10-15 years mining experience leading people
  • Strength and dexterity to personally inspect all areas of his responsibility that may affect employee safety, and environmental integrity, while maintaining high standards and fulfilling all criteria to meet MSHA regulations
  • Experience as an effective team builder with demonstrated abilities
  • Proven history of directing and coordinating business production needs 
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate all levels of personnel
  • Excellent communication, presentation and interpersonal skills and be highly motivated and self-directed
  • Ability to conduct meetings and keep records of time, safety, production, and personnel
  • Ability to efficiently communicate both verbally and through written instructions task directions, and job assignments
  • Ability to work 50 hours per week, maintain regular contact with operations during off hours, fully engage with the inspectors during MSHA inspections, and commit to weekend coverage, as needed
  • Participation in Employee Involvement Teams is required
