Provide day to day departmental product production of Ammonia, Nitric Acid, Urea, and Urea Ammonium Nitrate in an effective, efficient, safe and environmental manner to maximize production levels within Federal, State, Local regulatory requirements, Company Policies and Procedures and industry best practice
Interface regularly with local customers to determine product needs and services
Lead and facilitate the departmental safety and environmental efforts, programs, (i.e. observations, KPASs, safety meetings) and regulatory compliance and ensures employee understanding of these areas
Ensure maximum reliability of quality production output of the process units and the on-time shipment of products
Ensure the proper coordination of maintenance repair activities
Conduct performance appraisals on direct reports and sets goals and objectives for their job performance and professional development
Prepare the annual departmental budgeting, department projects & associated department activities
Monitor operational and financial results versus plan and ensure appropriate reporting of the results, as well as identifying issues that could impact goal attainment
Represent the Geismar Facility with local vendors and suppliers, various contactor groups in a manner that will support the site and promote positive community relationships
Accept and promotes ownership of the area’s operating units
Resource for the Engineering departmental activities for process de-bottle-necking and process optimizations
Interface with Company Sales and Marketing personnel and plant customers for product shipment and customer complaints
Oversee hiring, performance management, development, and motivation of all Production employees
Ensure the ongoing training and development of the Shift Supervisors and Operating Technicians, in addition to the departments Operator Certification Program
Interact and coordinate with all levels of department personnel, other site department personnel, contactors, local regulatory officials, and local community members
Ensure departmental process energy and raw material needs and alternatives are available
Assist in process designs including equipment specifications, operating instructions and training, process P&ID’s, and Management of Change
Participate on process HAZOP reviews, safety audits, process improvement teams and various other plant team projects
Perform process engineering calculations, i.e. energy balances, process flows, etc.
Provides technical support for departmental personnel
Respond to, contain, and clean up spills such that the release of hazardous waste or hazardous waste constituents to the environment is either prevented or minimized as much as possible
Properly containerize hazardous waste
Actively participate in plant safety
Assist in the development of short and long-range objectives for the improvement of the unit operations
Represents Production team as a member of the facility Staff team
All other duties as assigned
What you will bring:
Bachelor Science degree in Chemical Engineering is preferred
10 plus years’ experience in operations or related areas of manufacturing and/or similar industry
Minimum 5 years in supervision
Ability to obtain TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential) as issued by TSA (Transportation Security Administration)
Management and supervisory skills and be able to effectively manage employees and contractors
Ability to organize and prioritize multiple projects and adjust quickly as needed
Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills with both company and contract employees
Ability to work independently with a goal orientated self-motivated attitude
Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills
Ability to work all shifts, overtime, weekends, and holidays as needed and required
Availability to respond to call-out as assigned
