Reporting to the Terminal Supervisor, the Operator is primarily responsible for supporting the safe and efficient operation of the ammonia terminal.
What you will do:
  • Maintain safe and efficient operation of the ammonia terminal area including shipments for both incoming and outgoing product fertilizers, recording data, and making operational corrections as required
  • Receive products - Off-loading of barges, inspecting and maintain off-loading equipment, maintain all record keeping requirements, follow associated procedures and best practices
  • Safe operations, maintenance/repair and inspection of heavy equipment such as front-end loaders and other site mobile equipment
  • Safe operation, maintenance, repair and inspection of bulk handling equipment including rotating equipment such as Belt conveyors, etc
  • Shipping of products – control panel operations, communications systems, crew management
  • Provide courteous service to all internal and external customers
  • Ensure all Transportation of Dangerous Goods requirements are maintained and in compliance to all standards
  • Adhere to local, state and federal governmental regulations and standards
  • Train drivers on loading procedures
  • Maintain good customer service and good working relations with business partners (carriers, etc.)
  • Record and enter data readings
  • Train NH3 carriers on loading/unloading procedures and Personal Protective Equipment
  • Safe and efficient operation of refrigeration system including maintenance, repair, trouble shooting and inspection of loading/unloading equipment (pumps, hoses, etc.), ammonia compressors and condenser fans, utility systems including associated instrumentation (basic), critical systems and devices
  • Control panel operation, including safe and efficient process control/management including all associated operational and safety devices/controls/equipment
  • Proper use, care and inspections of all safety equipment
  • Maintain parts inventory, ordering replacement parts, managing work order system, equipment data sheets, and repair logs, etc
  • Conduct site planned inspections, housing keeping audits, safety equipment integrity checklists and MMS self assessments
 What you will bring:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Operator experience not necessary - training provided
  • Possess basic working knowledge of mechanical equipment including; alignment tools, pumps, compressors, gearboxes, etc
  • Instrumentation/electrical experience a plus
  • Process Safety Management (PSM), experience a plus
  • Ability to be “on-call”, responsible to respond to terminal demands during non-manned hours
  • Ability to operate heavy equipment including forklifts, man-lifts, and front-end loader, tractors, and track-mobile
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel and other programs related to day-to-day operations
  • Valid drivers’ license required
  • Must live within a 25-mile radius from the site
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills
  • Possess intermediate computer skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Must be willing to travel occasionally for training courses and/or to assist at other terminals
  • Can work with minimal supervision and be self-motivated
