Reporting to the General Counsel, Retail, the Assistant General Counsel position is responsible for assisting the Retail business to service customers (i.e. growers). That means working in a fast-paced, growing, challenging and rewarding environment, with a variety of knowledgeable partners.
Nutrien requires an experienced Assistant General Counsel to be based at our Retail headquarters (in Loveland, Colorado) and to work with branch locations across the U.S.A. The successful candidate must be able to hit the ground running and must have a well-developed set of skills, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
What you will do:
Advise senior management on legal issues stemming from transaction, litigation and financing matters
Provide, in a timely fashion, advice to members of the business on various business issues
Advise with regulatory, compliance, licensing and policy issues
Advise with drafting and negotiating contracts and other commercial documents
Partner with employees in product development, supply chain, supplier relations, marketing and digital to successfully drive the initiatives they are championing
Manage legal costs of external legal services
Give strategic legal advice to business partners and management
Travel within North America and occasionally abroad for meetings and other work-related activities
Participate in and lead other legal work
What you will bring:
Be a member of an Association Bar in the U.S. with the requirements to become a member of the Colorado Bar AssociationMinimum 10-15 years of senior business level experience in a corporate counsel environmentBroad legal background and significant knowledge with experience in transactional lawAbility to effectively manage tight timelines and balance competing prioritiesA track record of value creation Ability to be a “hands-on” lawyer who is pragmatic and customer-service oriented, with willingness and ability to learn Nutrien’s Retail business Experience in banking or financing law would be an assetBasic knowledge of one or more of the following areas would be a plus: litigation, intellectual property, environmental, real estate and employment lawBusiness, tax or financial acumen is valuedProven leadership and management skills with an ability to interface across all levels of an organizationStrong work ethic and the ability to meet deadlines without sacrificing quality of serviceExcellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written)Demonstrated business and legal judgment, and excellent strategic and analytical skillsOutstanding relationship building capability and a collaborative working style – be a strong team player with the ability to work collaboratively with employees from different regions and with varying levels of seniority, offering timely and solution-focused practical advice and consultationProven ability to build and maintain ‘trusted advisor’ relationship with stakeholders, including external counsel, customers and all levels of management Are you a good match?
