What you will do:
  • Discover and develop new digital agronomic insights that unlock the genetic potential of Nutrien’s seed portfolio for growers
  • Leverage our environmental science and access our seed database to help solve genetic by environment on a field-by-field basis and work to deliver the agronomic recommendations for new digital decision support tools to place and manage row crops in North America
  • Perform GxE analysis, including the creation of data enabled prediction models using multiple environmental and performance traits to estimate the effects of genotype x environment interactions for row crops
  • Manage our Seed data assets; define representation of seed-related data; develop mechanisms for the automated validation and cleaning of data ingestion
  • Apply statistical numerical methods to validate the results of seed trials, including those provided by third parties, to identify and remove sampling errors, reporting bias, or other flaws in the data as collected and reported
  • Create numeric or machine learning models capable of predicting the performance of a given seed for a specified soil and environmental profile
What you will bring:
  • Bachelor’s Degree required, preferably in Seed Science, Plant Science, Crop Science, Agricultural Science, Agronomy, or similar disciplines; experience may be considered in lieu of education.
  • Masters or Doctorate strongly preferred
  • 10+ years of related experience required, preferably as an Applied Seed Scientist (e.g. Breeding, Product Advancement, Technical Seed Manager) in major row crops for North America
  • Required technical skills with Python; experience with Julia, R, or Matlab desired but not required
  • Demonstrated value delivery through application of data driven decision making
  • Working experience of statistical and/or machine learning predictive models, data models and data governance
  • Practical design and implementation of seeds trials
  • Strong understanding of techniques involved in GxE analysis
  • Familiarity with data collection, organization, and cleaning in agricultural contexts
  • Strong experience with data architectures supporting data mining, and the application of statistical and machine intelligence models in agricultural contexts
  • Strong statistical and numerical methods skills appropriate for the analysis and normalization of potentially dirty data
Compensation & Benefits:
 
Salary Range: $125,000-$152,000. This range is estimated for the Senior Principal Computational Scientist, Seed position in Loveland, Colorado.

In addition to base pay, this role is also eligible to participate in our annual incentive plan, consistent with the terms of our plan, which provide discretionary award opportunities reflecting components such as performance of the company and the employee.  Details will be discussed through the application process.
