Actagro is positioned to serve as the global innovation hub in the broader Nutrien organization, and has recently opened a new 10,000 sq ft state-of-the-art Research & Development center in Biola, CA, 8 miles west of Fresno, CA.
Actagro was founded on the premise that complex mixtures of reacted carbon provide significant agronomic benefit to both plant and soil health and improve use efficiency of macro and micronutrients. We employ a diverse R&D team of chemical engineers, biochemists, soil scientists and plant physiologists committed to describing at a fundamental level the mode of action of this technology and to developing the next generation of complex reacted carbon to meet the needs of a growing population.
What you will do:
  • Interact regularly with leaders of the sales, engineering, research and development, customer service, and regulatory organizations to provide pertinent technical data to decision makers, to ensure quality specifications are met
  • Serve as a crucial link between R&D and engineering in the scale up of new technologies
  • Manage two laboratory facilities located in Biola, CA and Osceola, AR – ensuring all EPA and OSHA regulations are met, practicing good chemical hygiene
  • Monitor the Quality budget
  • Manage and develop an excellent team of technicians and shape the Quality organization to improve efficiency and functionality. The team is responsible for:
    • Routine QC testing, reporting abnormalities to the larger organization, investigation of abnormalities and providing suggestions for remedy
    • Investigation of customer complaints
    • Collection of large amounts of analytical data, consolidation into concise reports and dissemination to various functions within the organization (sales, production, customer service, regulatory)
    • Evaluation of new raw materials
What you will bring:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or related field
  • 5+ years’ relevant quality assurance and/or quality control experience in a laboratory setting including 1+ years’ in a mentor, supervisor or leader role required
  • Extensive experience with SAP QA/QC Modules, or other LIMS infrastructure
  • Well-versed in analytical chemistry, analytical instrument maintenance, analytical method development
  • Excellent communication skills – particularly in communicating technical information to individuals without technical training
  • The ability to travel 10% between Biola and Osceola sites
