The AgCareers.com 2010 Ag HR Roundtable is just around the corner and there is still time to get signed up. If you are looking for a conference that will help to identify upcoming trends and challenges regarding recruitment and retention within the agriculture industry, this conference is for you. Plan to join human resource professionals, university career services and faculty, and association representatives within agriculture, August 2 - 4 in Minnetonka, MN for meaningful discussion, educational workshops, and great networking.

This year's conference is being hosted by Syngenta and is full of educational opportunities for conference attendees. From better understanding selection practices, to unraveling the mysteries of what the proposed new healthcare system will mean for organizations, this conference has main sessions for all and concurrent sessions that allow participants to narrow their focus and learn more about specific issues of interest. Our keynote address, Today's Talent Market – Tomorrow's Future, will be presented by Russ Weathers of Agriculture Future of America (AFA). This session will look at some interesting career trends, including prevalent jobs now and then, as well as what the pipeline of talent entering into agriculture looks like compared to job opportunities. Russ will also be sharing a firsthand look at some exciting, new research that AFA has conducted. Below is a brief review of what this new research study will share.

As qualified graduates ready themselves to enter the workforce, the industry requires a pipeline of talented, passionate, and committed young people. Are students on the right track for success? Do students undervalue the personal attribute of developing innovative solutions or following company procedures relative to their success? Will they be able to contribute to their organizations expectations on Day 1? Are current personal and professional development programs helping to prepare future leaders in agriculture? AFA, in partnership with Millennium Research, commissioned a study to discern if training programs, like AFA’s Human Capital Leader Development Training Program are appropriately training and preparing future leaders in agriculture. Results of the survey indicate that while improvements can be made, training programs that look to prepare future leaders are critical for students to make the transition into the workforce, and contribute immediately to the growth and innovation of our industry.

This is just one of the many sessions that will be featured at this year’s Ag HR Roundtable. Beyond the educational component, plenty of time has been allotted for networking and fun. You can plan to take a tour of the Minneapolis area, join us for a dinner cruise, or tour one of Syngenta’s interesting research centers.

We are expecting a great turnout this year and already have participants registered from both new and familiar organizations. To view a list of organizations that are currently registered, click here.
