Job Description:

Our Company's Neuroscience group in West Point, PA is seeking a post-doctoral fellow with expertise in electroencephalographic studies as well as machine learning-based feature detection/classification. The successful candidate will research, create, and then deploy a package which will automatically detect/classify various neural activity patterns in preclinical EEG recordings, with an aim towards developing novel biomarkers supporting neuroscience drug discovery. The package will be targeted for not only non-coders within our company but the corresponding scientific community at large. As such, this position will require i) application of advanced EEG time-series and signal processing techniques, ii) application of machine learning based detection and classification routines, and iii) software programming to develop a bespoke computational package. The position requires a high level of comfort with coding (e.g., Python, MATLAB, R), as well as a facility with the relevant machine learning algorithms. This position is interdisciplinary, sitting at the intersection of neuroscience, preclinical safety, & applied computer science. As such the candidate will be expected to perform an exceptional degree of collaboration.

The successful candidate will:
  • Devise and implement a package that will detect and classify neural activity patterns in preclinical EEG recordings from a range of preclinical species.
  • Interact smoothly with bench scientists, statisticians, biologists, clinicians, and informatics/IT staff, both internally and externally.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert regarding the various aspects of neural activity pattern detection/classification.
  • Present data in team meetings and participate in generation of technical reports in support of regulatory documents as needed.
  • Possess a high level of self-motivation, comfort with complex multitasking, ability to work independently with minimal assistance.
  • Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, high levels of creativity and flexibility and a highly collaborative approach.


Minimum required education:
  • Ph.D. (or expected defense within the next year) in neuroscience, biomedical engineering, computer science, statistics, or another related field.


Required Skills and Experience:
  • Proficient in scientific/statistical programming (e.g., Python, R and/or MATLAB).
  • Experience in electroencephalographic studies and their analytic methodology.
  • In-depth knowledge of EEG time-series and signal processing techniques.
  • Experience with relevant machine learning algorithms.


Preferred Skills and Experience:
  • Previous experience in ictal and interictal activity.
  • Knowledge of the machine learning landscape and a practical experience with several common machine learning/deep learning packages.
  • Track record of using machine learning/deep learning for signal detection/classification.
