Our company is currently seeking a highly motivated and exceptional scientist with a focus on developing and applying AI/ML approaches in protein and small molecule modeling in the Computational and Structural Chemistry department at our South San Francisco site. The successful candidate will join multidisciplinary, highly collaborative discovery teams both locally and across the global of our company's network to contribute to the invention of novel biologics and small molecule medicines. This role involves both development of innovative computational methods as well as direct application of the methods to the invention of novel medicines.

Key Job Duties:
  • Developing new workflows, including deep learning workflows, that enable the discovery of new medicines
  • Collaborating with interdisciplinary discovery teams to apply a variety of informatics and modeling techniques to accelerate the evolution of drug discovery leads to drug candidates
  • Continuing research in areas of machine learning and molecular modeling relevant to drug discovery, and maintaining an external scientific presence through high-impact publications and presentations
  • Education, mentoring, and sharing of AI/ML knowledge with other AI/ML team members, the department, and adjacent groups
  • Potential mentoring and development responsibilities for direct report(s)


Position Qualifications:

Education:
  • M.S./M.A. (with 8 years) or Ph.D. (with 3 years) in computer science, applied math, engineering, biophysics, biochemistry, chemistry, or equivalent and related experience


Required Experience and Skills:
  • Two (2) years of experience adapting or applying deep learning methods to problems relevant to the life sciences and/or drug discovery
  • Two (2) years of prior work with a major deep learning framework (PyTorch, TensorFlow, JAX, or similar)
  • Proficiency in Python for scientific computing, including NumPy/SciPy
  • Knowledge of machine learning best practices
  • Multiple publications or external presentations demonstrating creative application of computational approaches
  • Highly self-motivated, with excellent attention to detail and strong organizational and communication (oral and written) skills


Preferred Experience and Skills:
  • Three (3) years of machine learning and deep learning work history
  • Prior work with computational design software such as Rosetta, MOE, or Schrodinger
  • Prior work with 3D molecular design for drug discovery
  • Knowledge of good software practices and proficiency at using code versioning tools (such as Git) in a collaborative environment
  • Has worked in multidisciplinary teams that include experimental scientists
