Job Description

In every role, McCainers are ambitious, curious, and passionate about creating exceptional work experiences - together. With a customer-first mindset, we make doing business with McCain easy.

About the role.

This entry-level, temporary summer position is ideal for individuals interested in agricultural sciences, supply chain management, or potato crop research. The role provides hands-on experience supporting the raw potato supply chain, with a primary focus on agronomy and new-variety research trials, grower extension activities, commercial crop intelligence, and field and storage management.

What you'll be doing.

  • Assist with potato research trials evaluating variety performance, agronomic performance, and soil health from planting through harvest.
  • Collect crop growth measurements, disease observations, yield estimates, and other agronomic data under the direction of the Regional Agronomist.
  • Maintain accurate records and support consistent sample collection, handling, and documentation.
  • Prepare materials, attend field days, and help coordinate grower outreach and extension activities.
  • Support commercial-scale evaluations of new potato varieties for yield, quality, disease resistance, and suitability for commercial production.
  • Record and summarize observational data to help regional teams determine which varieties should advance.
  • Gather and report real-time crop development information through field scouting, irrigation and nutrient monitoring, and assessments of crop health, expected production, and emerging risks.
  • Assist with planting and harvest logistics and support post-harvest data collection related to storage conditions and quality retention.

What you'll need to be successful.

  • Interest in agricultural sciences, supply chain management, potato crop research, or a related field.
  • Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to field sites.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather and field conditions.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to follow established protocols.
  • Effective communication, teamwork, organization, and record-keeping skills.

Benefits of the role.

  • Exposure to the full potato supply chain and direct interaction with commercial growers, researchers, agronomists, and extension professionals.
  • Hands-on experience with field research, crop monitoring, variety evaluation, storage management, and agricultural operations.
  • Opportunities to develop skills in crop data analytics, summary reporting, and applied agronomic problem-solving.
