The Opportunity:

Provide senior health and safety leadership across the network, championing a proactive, zero-injury culture and ensuring every site operates in full compliance with federal and provincial regulations. Develop and lead the rollout of a new safety management platform and modernize standard operating procedures to embed consistent, audit-ready practices network-wide.

Compensation:  $122,000 - $172,000 CAD base pay annually plus annual short-term incentive
 

The above compensation reflects the target compensation for the position at the time of posting. The base salary offered may vary based on a variety of factors including skills, experience, education, training, job- related knowledge, and other organizational requirements. For part-time roles, salaries are adjusted according to scheduled hours.  In addition to base salary, this role is eligible to participate in Maple Leaf's annual short-term incentive plan. 

 

Snapshot of a Day-in-the-Life:

Develop and lead the following initiatives:

  • Enterprise rollout of the new safety management software platform across all sites, driving adoption, training, and data integrity.
  • Standardization of SOPs to ensure ongoing compliance with federal and provincial health and safety regulations.
  • A proactive safety culture that reduces incidents, injuries, and lost-time across the network.
  • Governance, auditing, and corrective-action routines that sustain regulatory compliance.
  • Monitoring of leading and lagging safety indicators, with performance reporting to senior leadership.
  • Hazard identification, risk assessment, and corrective-action tracking through to closure.
  • H&S training and certification programs that strengthen frontline capability and engagement.
  • Emergency preparedness and crisis-response planning across the site network.
  • Design, pilot and scale enterprise safety initiatives aligned with the corporate H&S strategy.
  • Partner with the VP H&S to develop, prioritize and execute the multi-year H&S strategy and annual operating plan.
  • Lead and develop a high-performing H&S team by building capability, coaching performance, strengthening engagement, and developing future leaders

Strategic Responsibility

  • Translate the enterprise H&S strategy into actionable site plans, priorities, and standards.
  • Advise site and operations leaders on H&S risks and recommend policy and process improvements.
  • Anticipate evolving federal and provincial regulation and lead site readiness planning.

Financial Responsibility & Impact

  • Manage the H&S program budget, including safety platform, training, and vendor spend.
  • Improve cost efficiency by reducing injury rates, lost-time claims, and related premium costs.
  • Support capital and resource planning with cost-benefit analysis for H&S investments.

 

What You'll Bring:

  • 7-9 yrs H&S specific experience
  • In-depth knowledge of federal and provincial OHS legislation
  • Enterprise software implementation and change management
  • SOP and safety standards development
  • Cross-functional influence and leadership
  • Incident investigation and risk assessment
  • Data-driven safety performance analysis
  • CRSP designation an asset
  • Degree in Engineering or H&S
