Hansen Agri-PLACEMENT is searching for an experienced Shop Manager for a progressive agricultural operation. This is a hands-on leadership position responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operation of a busy agricultural equipment shop, supervising and supporting shop technicians, coordinating repairs and preventative maintenance, managing parts and inventory, and helping keep equipment ready when it is needed. The employer is looking for someone who combines strong mechanical ability with the organization and leadership skills necessary to manage a shop. This individual should be comfortable working on a variety of agricultural and heavy equipment while also setting priorities, assigning work, coordinating outside repairs, and working closely with other areas of the operation to minimize equipment downtime.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Oversee day-to-day shop operations and coordinate the activities of shop technicians.
- Prioritize, assign, and monitor repair and maintenance work to ensure projects are completed efficiently and on schedule.
- Communicate with other areas of the operation to determine equipment needs, repair priorities, and maintenance schedules.
- Coordinate with outside service providers when repairs or specialized work need to be completed externally.
- Remain hands-on in the shop and assist with equipment maintenance and repairs as needed.
- Diagnose mechanical and operational problems and provide technical guidance to other employees.
- Maintain and repair a diverse equipment fleet that may include:
- Tractors and agricultural implements
- Semi tractors and trailers
- Farm trucks and passenger vehicles
- Manure application equipment
- Feed trucks
- Skid loaders and wheel loaders
- Other agricultural equipment
- Manage shop tools, equipment, parts, and supply inventories.
- Order parts and shop supplies as needed.
- Work with vendors and suppliers to obtain parts and materials in a timely and cost-effective manner.
- Maintain required fuel, maintenance, and daily work records.
- Utilize technology and internal management systems to track work and shop activities.
- Train new employees on proper shop procedures and safety practices.
- Ensure employees follow established safety procedures and company policies.
- Perform metal fabrication as needed.
- Assist with tire repair and replacement.
- Assist with minor construction projects as needed.
- Work with generators, hand and power tools, building equipment, ventilation systems, and related equipment as needed.
- Perform additional duties as necessary to support the operation.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Direct and coordinate the daily work of shop technicians.
- Determine work priorities and delegate tasks based on operational needs.
- Provide technical assistance and guidance when mechanical or operational issues arise.
- Train employees on shop procedures, equipment maintenance, and safety.
- Communicate with management regarding equipment needs, repair progress, and outside service work.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- 3+ years of mechanical experience required, preferably involving an agricultural background and/or related education.
- Strong mechanical and equipment troubleshooting ability.
- Knowledge of generators, hand and power tools, building equipment, ventilation systems, and related equipment.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple projects and responsibilities.
- Ability to utilize technology for communication and management of internal systems.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to work effectively with employees, management, vendors, and outside service providers.
- CDL preferred but not required.
- Must be willing and able to work weekends during peak spring and fall seasons and occasionally during other times due to operational or staffing needs.
PHYSICAL & WORK ENVIRONMENT:
This is a hands-on agricultural shop position involving regular work around vehicles, agricultural machinery, heavy equipment, and livestock production facilities.
The employee may work both indoors and outdoors and may be exposed to changing weather conditions, noise, fumes, airborne particles, moving mechanical components, and vibration.
Must be able to stand, walk, sit, climb, balance, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and perform repetitive physical tasks. Must occasionally be able to lift or move up to approximately 50 pounds.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:
$80,000-$100,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications, with flexibility for an exceptional candidate. Additional compensation includes 5-10% bonus potential.
