Hansen Agri-PLACEMENT is assisting a well-established, privately owned California ranch in the search for a dependable, hard-working Ranch Hand to become part of the operation. This is not a recreational cowboy position or a job for someone looking for a ranch lifestyle without the work. This is a demanding, hands-on ranch position for someone who genuinely enjoys working cattle, working outdoors, tackling difficult terrain, and being part of a team where work ethic, loyalty, respect, humility, and personal accountability matter. The ideal candidate is a true ground-pounder—someone who is not afraid of hard work, understands that ranch work can be physically demanding, and takes pride in doing the job correctly. The ranch owner is looking for someone who wants to learn the operation, earn trust, and become a long-term member of the ranch team.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Assist with all phases of a commercial cow-calf ranching operation
  • Gather, move, sort, process, and care for cattle
  • Monitor cattle and recognize animal health concerns
  • Assist with cattle handling, breeding, calving, vaccinations, processing, and shipping as needed
  • Operate ATVs and other ranch equipment safely and responsibly
  • Work throughout rugged and challenging ranch terrain
  • Assist with fencing, water systems, ranch roads, facilities, and general ranch maintenance
  • Assist with property, livestock, and infrastructure projects
  • Work independently when assigned a task while communicating effectively with the ranch owner and other employees
  • Be willing to work Sundays and other days when ranch operations require it
  • Perform whatever additional ranch duties are necessary to keep the operation running safely and efficiently

Candidates must understand that this is rugged ranch country, and the work can be physically demanding. This is not an operation where an employee simply rides around checking cattle. Some gathering areas involve significant elevation changes and difficult terrain. In certain locations, employees may climb approximately 1,600 feet of elevation multiple times during a cattle-gathering operation, with some areas extending approximately four miles one way. The successful candidate must be physically capable of working in this environment and understand the demands associated with covering a large, rugged country.

Desired Qualifications

  • Proven ranch-hand, cowboy, or commercial cattle experience
  • Strong understanding of cattle handling and livestock care
  • Experience working cattle in rugged or mountainous terrain is highly desirable
  • ATV experience
  • Ability to safely operate ranch equipment
  • Good livestock-handling skills and sound animal husbandry practices
  • BQA certification or knowledge of Beef Quality Assurance is a plus
  • Knowledge of the NCBA and modern beef-production practices is beneficial
  • Valid driver's license with a good driving record
  • Ability to work independently while also functioning as part of a team

This is a relationship-driven operation. The owner believes in building trust over time. If an employee demonstrates loyalty, hard work, honesty, and commitment, the owner is willing to invest in that individual and build a long-term working relationship.

Why This Opportunity?

If you're looking for an opportunity to work hard, learn, earn trust, become part of a respected ranch operation, and potentially build a long-term relationship with the ownership, this could be an outstanding opportunity. This is a ranch where character matters. The owner will stand behind an employee who works hard, follows direction, communicates honestly, respects the ranch, and takes pride in the job. If you are a real ranch hand, a hard worker, humble enough to learn, tough enough for the terrain, and looking for a place where loyalty and work ethic are valued, we want to hear from you.

Benefits

  • Housing Provided with Utilities Included
  • Health/Vision/Dental Insurance on cost share with family
  • Life Insurance
  • 401(k) Retirement after one year
