Hansen Agri-PLACEMENT is searching for a qualified Ranch Foreman for a progressive Wyoming ranching operation. Employer is searching for a dependable, experienced Ranch Foreman who can serve as a key lead employee and assist the Ranch General Manager with the day-to-day operations of this established cow/calf and yearling operation. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced cattleman who enjoys being directly involved in ranch operations while also having the ability to lead a small crew, organize daily activities, communicate effectively, and help ensure work is completed properly and efficiently.
 

The successful candidate must be a good cattleman first and foremost, with solid hands-on knowledge of commercial cow/calf production and yearling cattle. Experience should include calving, herd health, identifying and treating sick cattle, processing, vaccinations, feeding, moving and handling cattle, pasture management, fencing, and general ranch maintenance. This is not strictly a cowboy position. Horseback skills are needed, and the Ranch Foreman will work cattle horseback when appropriate, but the employer is looking for a well-rounded ranch professional who understands the entire operation and is willing to do whatever needs to be done.

The right person will be equally comfortable horseback, operating equipment, repairing fence, assisting with livestock health, or working alongside other employees to complete the day's priorities. This ranch is in a beautiful but demanding high-elevation Wyoming environment at approximately 7,500 feet. The operation experiences true mountain winters and changing weather conditions, so candidates must understand and appreciate the realities of year-round livestock production in this type of environment. This is an active working ranch, and the successful candidate must be willing and able to work outdoors in all types of weather.

The Ranch Foreman will work closely with the Ranch General Manager and will help provide day-to-day leadership and direction to a small ranch crew. Employer needs someone who can communicate expectations, keep employees productive and moving in the right direction, and lead by example. Must be able to work well with ownership, management, fellow employees, and seasonal help while contributing to a positive, team-oriented work environment.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Ranch General Manager with daily ranch operations and livestock management
• Help oversee, organize, and provide direction to a small ranch crew
• Lead by example and work alongside employees in day-to-day ranch activities
• Assist with all aspects of commercial cow/calf and yearling production
• Monitor cattle health and recognize, diagnose, and appropriately treat sick or injured livestock
• Assist with calving, processing, vaccinations, breeding-related activities, weaning, sorting, shipping, and cattle movements
• Monitor pasture conditions, grazing, water sources, and overall livestock needs
• Move and handle cattle both horseback and with other appropriate methods
• Assist with feeding and winter livestock management
• Operate tractors, feeding equipment, trucks, trailers, ATVs/UTVs, and other ranch equipment
• Assist with fencing, water systems, facilities, corrals, equipment, and general ranch maintenance
• Help maintain ranch facilities and equipment in good working condition
• Communicate regularly with the Ranch General Manager regarding cattle, employees, projects, and operational needs
• Help promote a safe, productive, and professional working environment
• Step up and take responsibility when the Ranch General Manager is unavailable

Qualifications

• Strong, practical background in commercial cow/calf and yearling cattle production
• Good cattle-handling and livestock husbandry skills
• Ability to identify livestock health problems and understand proper treatment procedures
• Previous experience leading or supervising ranch employees preferred
• Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively as part of a team
• Horseback cattle-working ability required; however, employer is seeking a well-rounded cattleman rather than strictly a cowboy
• Equipment operation and general mechanical/maintenance abilities
• Good organizational skills with the ability to prioritize daily work
• Self-motivated, dependable, and willing to take initiative
• Ability to accept direction from the Ranch General Manager while also providing leadership to other employees
• Must be willing to work the hours required of a year-round livestock operation, including during calving, severe weather, and other peak periods
• Must be comfortable living and working in a rural, high-elevation Wyoming environment
