Hansen Agri-PLACEMENT is searching for a qualified Ranch Assistant for this Wyoming ranch producer. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual who enjoys being involved in every aspect of a progressive family-owned ranching operation. The operation consists of approximately 475 commercial cow/calf pairs, a winter backgrounding program, and roughly 500 acres of irrigated forage production, primarily alfalfa hay with a limited amount of corn grown for silage. The successful candidate will become an important member of a family operation where integrity, initiative, dependability, and long-term commitment are highly valued.
This is not a traditional cowboy position. While horses are utilized during seasonal cattle gathering and movements, the majority of the work centers around commercial cattle production, feeding, hay production, irrigation, equipment operation, equipment maintenance, fencing, and general ranch upkeep. The employer is searching for someone who enjoys a diversified agricultural operation and takes pride in being a well-rounded ranch employee rather than specializing in only one area. The Ranch Assistant will work alongside the owners while also taking direction from the next generation of management as responsibilities continue to transition within the family operation. The successful candidate must be comfortable working independently, recognizing what needs to be accomplished without constant supervision, and taking ownership of the operation as if it were their own.
Daily responsibilities will vary with the season but will include assisting with all aspects of the commercial cow/calf herd, winter backgrounding, feeding, calving, cattle handling, herd health observation, fencing, hay production, irrigation, equipment operation, preventative maintenance, and general mechanical repairs. The operation farms approximately 500 acres of forage crops utilizing primarily center pivot irrigation, making previous experience with hay equipment, tractors, irrigation systems, and agricultural machinery highly desirable. The employer places significantly more value on mechanical ability than horseback skills. The ideal candidate will have the ability to service equipment, perform preventative maintenance, diagnose routine mechanical problems, complete general repairs, and help minimize equipment downtime during busy seasons. Welding and fabrication experience would be considered a strong advantage but are not mandatory.
The operation offers year-round employment with ranch housing, a company work vehicle, beef, and competitive compensation based on experience and qualifications. The provided home is older but comfortable and functional. The employer has expressed a willingness to make future improvements for an employee who demonstrates commitment, pride of ownership, and a genuine desire to become a long-term member of the operation. The family is searching for someone who is honest, dependable, self-motivated, mechanically inclined, and willing to help wherever needed. This is an outstanding opportunity for someone looking to establish roots with a respected Wyoming ranching operation where hard work, loyalty, and initiative are appreciated and rewarded.
