POSITION OVERVIEW

Hansen Agri-PLACEMENT is partnering with an established Nevada cattle operation and is seeking a dependable, trustworthy Ranch Assistant to assist with the day-to-day operation of approximately 400 head of cattle, irrigated ground and associated ranch responsibilities. This is a unique two-location position. The successful candidate will split their time between two ranch locations in Nevada based on the seasonal needs of the operation. From approximately April through November, the employee will work at a remote ranch, where the operation runs approximately 400 cows on a large Forest Service grazing permit and maintains approximately 400 acres of flood-irrigated ground. From approximately November/December through April, the employee will relocate to the operation's winter and calving location, where the cattle are calved and the operation includes both pivot and flood-irrigated ground. Housing is provided at both locations.

This is not a traditional cowboy position. The primary focus will be irrigation, fencing, feeding cattle, weed control, general repairs and maintenance, and other farm/ranch duties. Some cattle work will be involved, but extensive horseback riding is not required.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Operate and maintain flood and pivot irrigation systems
• Maintain, repair and construct fencing
• Feed and care for approximately 400 head of cattle
• Assist with calving and other general cattle work as needed
• Spray weeds and assist with vegetation control
• Perform general ranch repairs and maintenance
• Operate ATVs/UTVs for ranch and property work
• Assist with upkeep of ranch facilities, equipment and infrastructure
• Monitor grazing areas, fences, water systems and livestock
• Perform general farm and ranch duties as needed
• Work independently and responsibly, particularly while stationed at the remote northern ranch
• Relocate seasonally between the two ranch locations

QUALIFICATIONS

• Previous ranch, farm or agricultural experience preferred
• Experience with irrigation, fencing and general maintenance highly desirable
• Cattle experience preferred
• Mechanically inclined with the ability to perform basic repairs
• Able to operate tractors, ATVs/UTVs and other ranch equipment
• Able to work independently with minimal supervision
• Strong work ethic and dependable work habits
• Must be comfortable living and working in a remote environment
• Must be willing to spend approximately April through November at the remote northern location
• Must be willing to relocate to the winter/calving location for the remainder of the year
• Must be flexible with seasonal changes in location and workload
• Horseback riding experience is a plus but not required
• Must have excellent character and be highly trustworthy

This person needs to be someone the owners can trust completely, both with the livestock and property and while working around the family. The ability to work independently, make good decisions and take pride in maintaining the operation will be extremely important.
