Hansen Agri PLACEMENT is searching for a qualified On Farm Agronomist for an established commercial farming operation in Idaho. This is an excellent opportunity for an agronomy professional who enjoys working directly in production agriculture and wants to have an active role in crop health, quality, and production decisions.
This is a diversified operation producing commercial hops along with rotational crops. The agronomist will work closely with farm management and production personnel throughout the growing season and will have significant involvement in crop scouting, fertility, pest management, soil health, irrigation, and overall agronomic planning.
The employer is looking for someone who can bring sound agronomic knowledge to the operation while also being willing to learn. This is not a position for someone who believes they need to have every answer. The right individual will be comfortable asking questions, researching unfamiliar issues, utilizing industry resources, and working with others to determine the best approach.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Scout hops and other crops throughout the growing season
- Monitor crop development, soil moisture, weeds, insects, disease pressure, and other crop health concerns
- Develop fertility and nutrient management recommendations
- Develop pest and weed management strategies
- Provide recommendations for fertilizer and crop protection applications
- Monitor soil health and evaluate soil testing results
- Work with production personnel on irrigation decisions based on crop needs and field conditions
- Maintain and evaluate agronomic and production data
- Establish and monitor field trials involving products, varieties, and production practices
- Evaluate trial results and identify opportunities to improve crop quality, yield, and efficiency
- Coordinate agronomic activities with farm management and field personnel
- Provide agronomic direction and support during the growing season
- Research unfamiliar crop production challenges and utilize outside expertise when appropriate
- Continually evaluate production practices and identify opportunities for improvement
IDEAL CANDIDATE
- Bachelor's degree in Agronomy, Crop Science, Soil Science, or related agricultural field
- Professional agronomy experience preferred, although a range of experience levels will be considered
- Experience with hops, specialty crops, or row crop production beneficial
- Pesticide Applicator's License preferred or ability to obtain required licensing
- Strong crop scouting and plant health knowledge
- Understanding of fertility, soils, pest management, and irrigation
- Ability to analyze field information and make practical agronomic recommendations
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Self motivated and capable of working independently
- Comfortable working closely with farm management and production personnel
- Positive and team oriented
- Humble, teachable, and willing to ask questions
- Willing to research unfamiliar issues and seek additional expertise when appropriate
- Strong interest in continuous improvement and production agriculture
