Qualifications:


- Strong dairy herd management experience with a solid understanding of overall dairy operations
- Strong herd health and reproduction management skills
- Experience with AI breeding, semen selection, reproductive protocols, and monitoring breeding performance
- Previous employee supervision, training, and leadership experience
- Working knowledge of dairy nutrition, feeding programs, and feed management
- Experience with DairyComp, EZ Feed, VAS, or similar dairy management software
- Knowledge of milk quality, animal welfare, and dairy production practices
- Strong recordkeeping, inventory management, and organizational skills
- General knowledge of dairy facilities, equipment, and preventative maintenance
- Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to speak Spanish; fluency is preferred



Job Description:

Hansen Agri-PLACEMENT is representing a progressive dairy operation located in California who is seeking an experienced, hands on Herdsman to oversee herd performance, reproduction, employees, and daily dairy activities. This position will play an important role in maintaining excellent animal health, production, operational efficiency, and overall herd performance.

Responsibilities include overseeing herd health and reproduction programs, monitoring breeding performance, semen and genetic selection, replacement planning, and assisting with culling decisions. The Herdsman will work closely with the veterinarian and nutritionist to monitor animal health, treatment protocols, feeding programs, ration performance, and feed efficiency.

Additional responsibilities include supervising and scheduling dairy employees, assisting with hiring and training, maintaining accurate herd and treatment records, managing inventory, monitoring feed accuracy and waste, and helping read feed bunks. This individual will also help ensure preventative maintenance programs are followed for milking, manure, and feeding equipment while monitoring cow comfort, ventilation, bedding, and overall facility conditions.

The successful candidate will be a strong, hands-on leader who can work effectively with employees and management, maintain accountability, and ensure established milk quality, animal welfare, safety, and environmental protocols are consistently followed.
