Hansen Agri-PLACEMENT is searching for a qualified Feedyard and Farm Assistant Manager to join a progressive Nebraska cattle operation. This is an opportunity for an experienced agriculture professional who enjoys working around cattle and wants a hands-on position with responsibility across both cattle and general farm operations.

The ideal candidate will have practical cattle experience, strong work ethic, good judgment, and the ability to work independently. This position would be well suited for someone who understands that successful cattle operations require more than simply completing assigned tasks, the right person needs to be able to recognize problems, make good decisions, communicate effectively, and take ownership of their responsibilities.

Position Responsibilities

The Assistant Manager will work closely with the owner and will have responsibilities involving day-to-day cattle and agricultural operations. Duties may include:

- Assisting with the overall management and care of cattle.

- Monitoring cattle and identifying health, performance, and management concerns.

- Reading cattle and recognizing cattle that may require attention.

- Assisting with receiving, processing, sorting, weighing, and moving cattle.

- Helping manage yearling cattle and other growing cattle.

- Maintaining accurate cattle records and weights.

- Monitoring cattle performance and communicating observations to management.

- Assisting with feeding and general cattle-care responsibilities as needed.

- Operating tractors, loaders, trucks, and other agricultural equipment.

- Assisting with farm and crop-production activities during the appropriate seasons.

- Helping with equipment, facilities, maintenance, and general upkeep.

- Working safely and efficiently around cattle, equipment, and facilities.

- Providing dependable support to the overall operation and stepping into different areas when needed.

The Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate should have a solid agricultural background and be comfortable working around cattle on a daily basis. Qualified candidates may come from a variety of backgrounds, including:

- Feedyard management or cattle feeding.

- Cow-calf or stocker operations.

- Yearling operations.

- Ranch management.

- Diversified livestock and crop operations.

- Other hands-on production agriculture environments.

Previous feedyard management experience is beneficial but is not necessarily required for the right individual. A strong cattle background combined with sound judgment, agricultural knowledge, and a willingness to learn could be a good fit.

The operation is looking for someone who:

- Has strong cattle-handling skills.

- Understands cattle behavior and basic cattle health.

- Can identify problems and communicate them to management.

- Is comfortable making decisions and working independently.

- Has good mechanical and equipment-operating abilities.

- Can contribute to both livestock and crop-production activities.

- Is dependable, responsible, and willing to work when the operation requires it.

- Takes pride in doing a job correctly.

- Can work well as part of a small, hands-on management team.

Work Environment

This is a hands-on production agriculture position. The successful candidate should genuinely enjoy working outdoors and being involved in the daily operation of a cattle and agricultural business. The operation has a practical, team-oriented environment where employees are expected to contribute wherever needed. Because the agricultural team is relatively lean, the ability to handle a variety of responsibilities and work independently is important.

Candidates should be prepared for the normal demands of production agriculture, including variable weather, long days during busy seasons, cattle work, equipment operation, and other responsibilities associated with maintaining a successful agricultural operation.

Compensation & Benefits

Competitive compensation based on experience and qualifications.

Additional compensation, benefits, and employment details will be discussed with qualified candidates.

Qualifications

Required/Preferred:

- Practical agricultural experience.

- Strong cattle experience.

- Ability to safely handle and work around cattle.

- Ability to operate agricultural equipment.

- Good communication and organizational skills.

- Strong work ethic and dependability.

- Valid driver's license.

- Ability to work independently and as part of a small team.

Preferred:

- Feed yard experience.

- Experience with yearling cattle.

- Experience reading and evaluating cattle.

- Cattle processing and weighing experience.

- Experience with row-crop or diversified farming operations.

- Previous supervisory or lead-person experience.

Opportunity

This position offers an opportunity for the right agricultural professional to become an important part of a progressive cattle operation. The employer is looking for someone who can bring practical cattle knowledge, equipment and agricultural skills, and the ability to take responsibility and help move the operation forward.
