Hansen Agri-PLACEMENT is searching for a Qualified Crop Production Employee / Farm Equipment Operator for a progressive Connecticut dairy farming operation.

This position is ideal for an experienced, hands-on agricultural employee who enjoys crop production, operating modern farm equipment, equipment maintenance, and being an important part of a professional farming operation. The successful candidate will play an important role in producing high-quality feedstuffs that support the dairy's nutritional program, requiring an understanding of the importance of timely planting, crop management, forage production, harvesting, and feed quality throughout the growing season.

The employer is seeking someone who can become a long-term member of the team and who has the ability to take on additional responsibility over time as they become familiar with the operation.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Operate late-model farm equipment used in all phases of crop production, including planting, spraying, harvesting, tillage, manure application, forage harvesting, and grain handling.
  • Assist with producing high-quality corn silage, haylage, and other feed crops that support the dairy operation, recognizing the importance of proper timing, crop quality, and harvest management.
  • Assist with daily crop production activities while maintaining a high standard of productivity and attention to detail.
  • Perform preventative maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on farm equipment to minimize downtime.
  • Assist with grain handling, trucking coordination, harvest logistics, and forage movement as needed.
  • Monitor equipment performance and identify maintenance needs before they become major repairs.
  • Work alongside the farm management team to help keep daily operations organized and running efficiently.
  • Maintain accurate field, equipment, and maintenance records as requested.
  • Assist wherever needed throughout the operation during busy planting and harvest seasons.

Qualifications

  • Strong background in production agriculture.
  • Understanding of crop production practices associated with raising feed crops for a dairy operation is preferred, including the importance of producing high-quality forage and feed ingredients.
  • Experience operating large farm equipment including tractors, planters, sprayers, combines, forage equipment, grain carts, and trucks.
  • Good mechanical ability with experience performing equipment maintenance and repairs.
  • Self-motivated individual who can work independently while also functioning well as part of a team.
  • Strong communication skills and willingness to learn new systems and procedures.
  • CDL is beneficial but not required.
  • Previous dairy experience is helpful but not required. Candidates with strong crop production backgrounds who are eager to learn the dairy side of the operation are encouraged to apply.

Opportunity

The employer is looking for someone who wants to build a long-term career with the operation. While this is not being hired as a management position, there is opportunity for additional responsibility and advancement for an individual who demonstrates strong leadership, initiative, dependability, and a solid understanding of crop production.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Competitive compensation based on experience.
  • Salary generally ranging from $80,000 to $100,000, depending on qualifications.
  • Health benefits.
  • 401(k).
  • Paid Time Off.
  • Housing assistance available above list salary range. Employer-owned housing and rental assistance may be available depending on the candidate's individual needs and family situation.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced crop production employee who enjoys operating quality equipment, takes pride in maintaining machinery, understands the importance of producing quality feed crops for a successful dairy operation, and wants to become part of a progressive agricultural operation with long-term career potential.
