Hansen Agri-PLACEMENT is searching for a qualified Farm Business Manager for a progressive Kansas farming operation. This is an excellent opportunity for an organized, detail-oriented agricultural professional who understands the business and administrative side of a modern farming operation and can take ownership of the records, reporting, inventories, and day-to-day office functions associated with the farm.
Employer is looking for someone who can become the go-to person for the business side of the farming operation. This individual will work closely with ownership and farm management but will not be responsible for managing field production or supervising the farming operation. Rather, this person will make sure the information behind the operation is organized, accurate, current, and readily available for management.
The ideal candidate will have previous experience working in an agricultural office, farm business, crop insurance agency, FSA office, grain operation, ag accounting environment, or similar position. Previous crop insurance and FSA experience is strongly preferred. Employer is willing to train in certain areas for the right individual, but someone who already understands agricultural programs, farm records, and the terminology associated with crop production would be highly desirable.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Coordinate and maintain crop insurance records and documentation, including acreage, production, yield, and other information needed for reporting and claims.
- Work with and maintain records associated with FSA programs and reporting requirements.
- Maintain accurate farm production and field records, including acreage, yields, crop history, and related information.
- Track and reconcile scale tickets, grain tickets, production records, and yield data.
- Maintain accurate inventories of grain in storage and assist management in knowing what grain has been produced, delivered, marketed, or remains in inventory.
- Reconcile grain movements and tickets as grain is hauled from farm storage.
- Maintain records associated with grain contracts, marketing commitments, and margin calls, providing ownership with accurate and current information. This position will track marketing activity but will not be expected to make the operation's primary grain-marketing decisions.
- Maintain and reconcile inventories of seed, fertilizer, chemicals, biological products, and other crop inputs.
- Track biological products and programs being utilized throughout the farming operation.
- Assist with equipment and farm asset records, purchases, expenses, and other documentation associated with the farming enterprise.
- Organize and maintain farm records so ownership and management can quickly access accurate information when making business decisions.
- Assist with budgeting, cost tracking, reports, spreadsheets, and other financial or operational information as needed.
- Communicate with crop insurance representatives, FSA personnel, grain elevators, vendors, suppliers, accountants, lenders, and other agricultural business contacts as necessary.
- Help identify discrepancies in inventories, tickets, records, or reports and follow through until they are reconciled.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding the farm's financial, production, and business information.
- Take ownership of the farm office responsibilities and continually look for ways to improve organization, recordkeeping, and information flow.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Previous agricultural office, bookkeeping, farm accounting, crop insurance, FSA, grain, or farm business experience preferred.
- Crop insurance and FSA experience strongly preferred.
- Good understanding of production agriculture and the terminology associated with crop farming.
- Experience maintaining grain inventories, scale tickets, yield records, field reports, and/or crop production records highly beneficial.
- Strong organizational skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Comfortable working with numbers and reconciling records from multiple sources.
- Good computer skills, including spreadsheets and electronic recordkeeping.
- Ability to prioritize responsibilities and independently follow projects through to completion.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work closely with ownership, farm management, vendors, government agencies, and other outside professionals.
- Dependable, trustworthy individual who understands the importance of accuracy and confidentiality.
- Agricultural background strongly preferred.
This is an important position within the farming operation. Employer is looking for someone who wants to take responsibility for the business and administrative side of the farm, become thoroughly familiar with the operation, and provide ownership with accurate, organized information they can rely upon.
The successful candidate does not necessarily need to know every aspect of the position on day one. However, they must have the agricultural background, organizational ability, attention to detail, and initiative necessary to learn the operation and ultimately take ownership of these responsibilities.
Salary: Competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications.
Benefits: Negotiable based on experience and individual needs.
