Confidential Private Family Office | Agriculture, Ranching & Real Estate

California | $150,000+ Base Salary DOE

Hansen Agri-PLACEMENT is conducting a confidential search for a Chief Operating Officer to join a long-established, privately owned organization with interests in agriculture, ranching, real estate, and property operations.

This is a high-trust, hands-on leadership position working directly with ownership. The COO will take responsibility for day-to-day operational matters, bring structure and consistency to the organization, and reduce the owner's involvement in routine decisions and responsibilities.

This is not a traditional corporate COO position. The successful candidate will be a practical, dependable operator with strong judgment, discretion, and common sense.

Key Responsibilities

Operations & Administration

- Oversee day-to-day operations across multiple properties and business interests
- Coordinate vendors, contractors, service providers, and property needs
- Oversee insurance, vehicles, registrations, and other administrative matters
- Handle mail, bills, documentation, and recurring operational responsibilities
- Serve as a central point of contact and reduce the day-to-day burden on ownership

Personnel & Staffing

A major initial responsibility will be helping strengthen the organization's support team, including:

- Recruiting and hiring administrative personnel
- Accounting/AP/AR support
- Executive and personal support
- Property and general labor positions
- Establishing clear expectations and accountability

Financial & Operational Oversight

- Work closely with bookkeeping/accounting personnel
- Review invoices for accuracy and proper billing
- Approve routine expenses and ensure proper documentation
- Monitor operating expenses and cash flow
- Identify discrepancies and ensure obligations are handled properly

This is not a CFO position. The organization operates with a straightforward, practical financial structure.

Property & Agricultural Operations

Provide general oversight and coordination across agricultural, ranching, and property interests while working with existing managers, employees, and contractors.

Candidates should be comfortable around:

- Agriculture and ranching
- Farm and ranch equipment
- Rural properties
- Property maintenance
- Contractors and service providers

What Success Looks Like

The successful COO will:

- Learn the organization before making major changes
- Earn the confidence of ownership and employees
- Take responsibility and follow through
- Know when to make decisions and when to involve ownership
- Keep ownership informed without creating unnecessary complexity
- Make sure important details do not fall through the cracks
- Ultimately allow ownership to step away from many daily operational responsibilities

Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone with:

- Strong operational leadership experience
- Excellent judgment and common sense
- High integrity and discretion
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- The ability to work independently
- A practical, service-oriented mindset
- Comfort working directly with ownership

Preferred Background

Experience in one or more of the following is preferred:

- Agriculture or ranching
- Family-owned businesses
- Private family offices
- Property or estate operations
- Military leadership
- Construction or field operations
- Equipment or mechanical environments

Character, judgment, reliability, and fit are more important than a particular background.

What This Role Is — and Is Not

This IS:

- A hands-on operational leadership role
- A trusted partnership with ownership
- A long-term opportunity with meaningful responsibility
- An opportunity to become an essential part of a private organization

This is NOT:

- A traditional corporate executive position
- A CFO/accounting role
- A highly bureaucratic environment
- A position for someone looking to immediately overhaul the organization
The right person will be comfortable rolling up their sleeves, solving problems, and making sure things get done. If you're looking for a corporate ladder or a title-driven role, this isn't it. If you're looking to take ownership, build trust, solve problems, and become someone an owner can truly rely on, this could be an exceptional long-term opportunity.
