Steve Pratte Joins COPA as Director of Policy in Canada

Steve Pratte has been appointed COPA's director of policy, bringing nearly 20 years of transportation and regulatory experience to strengthen advocacy, policy development, and growth within Canada's oilseed processing sector.

The Canadian Oilseed Processors Association (COPA) has appointed Steve Pratte as its new director of policy, effective September 2, 2026. Bringing nearly 20 years of experience in transportation, logistics, biofuels and regulatory policy, Pratte is expected to strengthen the organization's advocacy and policy efforts on behalf of Canada's oilseed processing industry.

COPA Executive Director Mark Walker said Pratte's expertise in transportation policy, regulatory affairs and the Canadian grain sector will help advance the industry's priorities and enhance the association's policy capabilities.

Over the course of his career, Pratte has worked in both the public and private sectors, holding positions with a Class 1 railway, a national grain industry association and the Government of Manitoba. Most recently, he served as a consultant focusing on transportation and regulatory issues affecting Canada's grain sector.

Pratte has also played a leadership role within the Canadian Transportation Research Forum, serving as its 50th president from 2021 to 2023. His experience in policy development and transportation is expected to support COPA's work on key issues affecting oilseed processors across the country.

Regarding his appointment, Pratte noted the close connection between agriculture, food, biofuels and transportation policy, and expressed his commitment to working with industry partners to support a competitive oilseed processing sector in Canada.

Pratte holds a Bachelor of Arts, a Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology, and a Master of Arts in Geography. He has also completed professional training in supply chain and logistics management.

The Canadian Oilseed Processors Association is a federally incorporated non-profit organization that works alongside the Canola Council of Canada to represent and promote the interests of Canada's oilseed processing industry. With Pratte joining the team, COPA aims to further strengthen its policy and advocacy efforts while supporting the continued growth of the sector.
