Media ArticleThe Indiana Corn Marketing Council (ICMC) has appointed Dan Quinn, assistant professor of agronomy in Purdue University’s College of Agriculture, as its Extension specialist in agronomy. In this position, Quinn will support corn research, Extension programs, and educational efforts across Indiana. He has served as Purdue Extension’s corn specialist since 2021.
ICMC President Susan Brocksmith highlighted the importance of research in strengthening the state’s corn industry. “The Indiana Corn Marketing Council believes that good, reliable research will lead to healthier fields, better crops, higher yields and more profitable farms,” she said.
Quinn earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Michigan State University and a doctoral degree from the University of Kentucky. His research and Extension program focuses on improving corn production, farm profitability, and environmental sustainability throughout the Midwest.
Purdue officials praised Quinn’s contributions to Indiana agriculture. Bernie Engel, the Glenn W. Sample Dean of Agriculture and professor of agricultural and biological engineering, noted that Quinn’s work helps connect science-based solutions with the practical needs of farmers.
Growing up on farms in Michigan inspired Quinn’s interest in agriculture and soil science. Today, he conducts research at Purdue Agricultural Centers and works closely with farmers across Indiana to address key production challenges.
“ICMC funding allows my program to conduct applied field research that addresses some of the most pressing production challenges facing Indiana growers,” Quinn said. He added that the council’s support helps generate research-based information that farmers and crop advisors can use to improve productivity and profitability.
In addition to funding research, ICMC supports educational outreach efforts, including the Indiana Corn Research and Updates newsletter and collaborative initiatives designed to share the latest agronomic findings with growers.
Calling the appointment a major professional achievement, Quinn said, “This appointment is a tremendous honor for me. I believe it reflects the value and impact of my research and Extension program.”
ICMC leaders expressed confidence that Quinn’s research and Extension efforts will continue delivering practical benefits to Indiana corn producers in the years ahead.
