Media ArticleThe National Dairy Herd Information Association (National DHIA) is accepting applications for its veterinary student scholarship program, which supports third- and fourth-year students pursuing careers in dairy veterinary medicine. Selected recipients will receive a $1,500 scholarship in recognition of their interest in dairy animal health and herd management.
The scholarship is open to students enrolled in veterinary colleges accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) Council on Education. National DHIA aims to encourage future veterinarians who plan to contribute to the dairy industry through animal care, herd health, and data-driven management practices.
Applicants must submit a letter of application and two letters of reference. The application should highlight academic achievements, veterinary interests, experience with Dairy Herd Improvement (DHI) data, career goals, and perspectives on challenges facing dairy veterinary medicine.
The scholarship committee will evaluate candidates based on their interest in dairy veterinary practice, involvement in dairy-related activities, extracurricular participation, and familiarity with dairy software and records management. Applicants are also encouraged to discuss how they can help improve dairy herd health and management.
Students can find application requirements and instructions on the National DHIA website. Completed applications must be submitted to Elizabeth "Liz" Straw, chair of the National DHIA Scholarship Committee, by Dec. 31.
Scholarship recipients will be announced during the National DHIA Leadership Sessions and 62nd Annual Meeting, scheduled for March 2-4 in Fort Worth, Texas. The event brings together dairy industry professionals to discuss issues and opportunities affecting dairy production and management.
National DHIA said the scholarship program helps support the next generation of dairy veterinarians as the industry continues to rely on technology, production data, and advanced herd management practices. The organization believes veterinary professionals with expertise in these areas will play an important role in the future success of dairy operations.
As a trade association representing the dairy records industry, National DHIA works to maintain the integrity of dairy records and advance information systems that support dairy producers across the United States. Through its scholarship program, the organization continues investing in future leaders in dairy veterinary medicine.
