Media ArticleBrian Schneider, an agricultural education teacher at Napoleon Public School, has been named North Dakota’s 2027 Teacher of the Year. The honor recognizes his 40 years in education, including 35 years serving students in Napoleon.
Schneider teaches agricultural education courses for grades 7-12, covering subjects such as agriculture, leadership, and community development. He also oversees the school’s Cooperative Work Experience Program, helping students develop skills for future careers. His selection came after being named Logan County’s 2026 Teacher of the Year and advancing through the state review process.
Governor Kelly Armstrong praised Schneider’s long-standing commitment to students and agricultural education. “Agriculture is the bedrock of our economy and way of life in North Dakota, and for four decades Mr. Schneider has excelled at helping students build an educational foundation for their future lives and careers,” Armstrong said.
State Superintendent Levi Bachmeier also highlighted Schneider’s impact on education across the state. “Brian Schneider’s work reflects the commitment and student-focused mindset that define North Dakota’s best educators,” Bachmeier said. “His dedication to building confidence and creating opportunities for students exemplifies the leadership that helps our schools thrive.”
A graduate of North Dakota State University, Schneider has built an impressive record of student achievement throughout his career. Under his leadership, Napoleon’s FFA chapter has earned more than 150 state individual and team championships, three national Agricultural Sales Career Development Event titles, and numerous Top 10 national finishes.
Beyond the classroom, Schneider has contributed to agricultural education through leadership positions in professional organizations and by mentoring new teachers. His efforts have helped strengthen agricultural education programs and support educators throughout North Dakota.
Schneider said building confidence in students has always been central to his teaching approach. “Knowledge is power, but confidence is king. If a student believes they can achieve, they will achieve.”
Schneider will officially begin his term as North Dakota Teacher of the Year on Jan. 1, 2027. He will also represent the state as a candidate for the National Teacher of the Year award.
