Julie Chapin Receives Michigan 4-H's Highest Recognition

Dr. Julie Chapin received Michigan 4-H’s highest honor for her decades of leadership, volunteer service, philanthropy, and commitment to expanding youth development opportunities statewide.

Dr. Julie Chapin has received the Michigan 4-H Citation Award, the highest honor presented by Michigan 4-H Youth Development. The award recognizes individuals whose leadership and service have made a lasting impact on young people and 4-H programs across the state.
 

Chapin has dedicated more than four decades to Michigan 4-H and Michigan State University Extension. Throughout her career, she has served in a variety of leadership roles, helping strengthen youth programs, volunteer development, and educational opportunities.
 

Beginning her career with MSU Extension in 1981, Chapin worked as a 4-H youth agent before advancing to several statewide leadership positions. Her experience includes serving as a youth animal science specialist, state 4-H program leader, and director of the MSU Extension Children and Youth Institute.
 

Following her retirement in 2018, Chapin returned to leadership in 2022 to help guide Michigan 4-H and the Children and Youth Institute during a period of growth and organizational development. Her efforts helped support program advancement and long-term planning.
 

Chapin has also played an important leadership role within the Michigan 4-H Foundation. Through her involvement with the Beyond Ready Campaign, she has supported fundraising, strategic planning, and initiatives designed to ensure future opportunities for Michigan youth.
 

Alongside her husband, Larry, Chapin has demonstrated a strong commitment to philanthropy through support of Michigan 4-H programs and endowment initiatives. Their contributions have helped strengthen long-term resources for youth development throughout the state.
 

The award recognizes Chapin's lifelong dedication to leadership, volunteer service, advocacy, education, and philanthropy. Her continued involvement has helped position Michigan 4-H for future success while expanding opportunities for young people across Michigan.
 

The Michigan 4-H Legacy Awards Celebration also recognized other volunteers, supporters, scholarship recipients, and long-time contributors who have played important roles in the success of Michigan 4-H. Through their collective efforts, the organization continues to provide valuable learning and leadership experiences for youth statewide.
