The Wheat Growers Association has named David Hansen, former Chief Executive Officer of Canterra Seeds, as the 2026 recipient of the Shovel of Gratitude, the organization’s highest honour recognizing significant contributions to Canadian agriculture.
Hansen was recognized for his leadership in advancing discussions on the future of Canada’s plant breeding system and his efforts to strengthen agricultural innovation and competitiveness. Industry leaders credit him with helping address important challenges related to crop development and long-term sector growth.
More than a decade ago, Hansen worked with the Wheat Growers Association and other industry stakeholders to support a more sustainable and competitive approach to cereal variety development.
