We are searching for a strategic and analytical Senior Policy Analyst to support and advance Ontario Pork’s policy, advocacy, and government relations initiatives. In this role, you will provide policy leadership through research, analysis, and strategic planning, delivering advice and recommendations to senior management that align with the organization’s priorities, goals, vision, and mission. Working in a team-focused and results-oriented environment, you will help ensure Ontario Pork remains responsive to producer needs and challenges within an evolving marketplace.


The Senior Policy Analyst will monitor and analyze legislative, policy, and regulatory activities that impact Ontario’s pork sector, providing analysis and interpretation of policy options and emerging issues. You will draft government correspondence, submissions, and position papers, while addressing and managing key pork sector issues among governments, public servants, and other relevant groups and organizations. Additionally, you will build and maintain key relationships with policy makers to ensure Ontario Pork’s views and positions are advocated for effectively, while contributing to improving the public policy environment for pork producers in Ontario and Canada.


Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor and maintain a working knowledge of federal, provincial, and municipal regulations affecting the pork industry. Utilize this knowledge to conduct research and provide advice and recommendations to senior management.
  • Build and maintain working relationships with external working groups, industry organizations, and government stakeholders to support information sharing on common issues in the pork industry.
  • Attend consultation meetings and contribute to program and policy development.
  • Attend industry meetings and collaborate with commodity groups on policy initiatives and policy development.
  • Provide information, assistance, and producer education in other areas affecting the pork industry, as required.
  • Interact with Ontario Pork Producers' Marketing Board (OPPMB) staff and Board of Directors.
  • Regular interaction with producers, processors, government agencies, and other industry stakeholders.


Education and Experience

  • Post-secondary education in Political Science, Public Administration, or a related field.
  • 3-7 years of experience in public policy is required.
  • Experience in the agricultural field is an asset.

  • Excellent communication skills, including strong writing, verbal, and presentation skills.
  • Extensive experience in issues analysis, policy and legislation interpretation.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, including the ability to multi-task and meet tight deadlines.
  • Team player, self-motivated and results oriented.


Working Conditions

  • Office environment.
  • Occasional travel across Ontario. A valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle is required, as well as a minimum of $1,000,000 liability vehicle coverage.

  • Compensation to commensurate with experience.
