We are currently recruiting for a Research Associate at our seed product Research and Development Centre in Woodstock, Ontario. The successful applicant will be a key member of a comprehensive research station working towards improving corn and soybean products for Eastern Canada.

Responsibilities - What You'll Do:

  • Directly involved in field experiment planning, field equipment/machinery maintenance and operation, plot seeding and maintenance including herbicide application, data collection, and harvesting. 

  • Provide development, analysis, and maintenance support to Research Equipment Support Team. Inspects, perform and coordinate routine maintenance on sophisticated research equipment used to conduct experiments.

  • Manage and conduct experiments to completion, according to specific procedures, exercising independent judgment and discretion as appropriate. This includes, but not limited to, the knowledge of general agronomic practices and evaluation procedures, crop scouting, computer skills, field data collection, data quality analysis, seed handling & logistics.

Qualifications


Qualifications - What You'll Bring:

  • B.Sc. degree or Associate Diploma in Plant Science, Agronomy, Crop Science or other relevant majors in agriculture. Equivalent level of relevant education and experience will be considered.

  • Experience with field crop plot research and/or agricultural production including farm equipment operation and maintenance.

 

  • Operation and maintenance of research equipment (tractor, planter, sprayer, combine, etc.) and/or related farm machinery experience.

  • Agronomic expertise to include crop production, herbicide knowledge and application, tillage practices, crop scouting and problem identification and solving. A valid pesticide applicator license is an asset.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as math and computer skills including MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, and MS Outlook along with proprietary software.

  • Self-motivation and ability to initiate projects, improvements, decisions, and problem solving.

  • Ability to work well alone and in a team.

  • Extended hours and occasional weekend hours are required during peak periods.

  • Valid provincial driver’s license and satisfactory driving record.

  • May be required to do physical lifting and work in varying ergonomic environments.
