Responsibilities What You Will Do:
How will you help us grow? It matters to us, and it matters to you!

  • Manage the day-to-day activities associated with project execution as part of a team, working collaboratively to meet the quality, quantity, and timeline targets for project deliverables. This may include planting, tagging, sampling, transplanting, pollinating, harvesting, discarding, shelling, and packaging resulting seed.
  • Manage the creation and planting of experiments, the selection of top-progeny, and maintain related databases.
  • Coordinate with other groups to ensure key steps are completed in a collaborative manner.
  • Make observations on plant phenotype.
  • Interpret phenotypic segregation to infer genotypes.
  • Select plants for crossing/selfing based on genotypic and phenotypic data.
  • Supervise the sorting and selection of seed based on quality guidelines and business objectives
  • Ensure data is collected accurately and uploaded to databases in a timely manner.
  • Communicate openly with team and supervisors on matters of relevance.
  • Promote positive work attitudes and harmonious relations.
  • Supervise full-time employees and contingent workers, ensuring work is performed in a safe and efficient manner in accordance with specified research protocols and regulations.
  • Work flexible schedules and weekends during peak periods when required.
  • Support all Waimea Research center-wide goals and support other projects when needed.

  • Bachelors Degree in a related field.
  • You are able to lead and manage people effectively.
  • You have strong computer competency: tablets, PCs, Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Power Point, Word) etc.
  • You are knowledgeable in Mendelian and molecular genetics.
  • You are knowledgeable in plant biology and basic agronomy.
  • You have a valid drivers license.
  • When you see a problem, you look for a way to fix it, youre solutions focused.
  • You value the safety of yourself and your co-workers and will eagerly participate in safe work practices, on-the-job safety, and work safety programs.
  • You always are willing to help out and physical work isnt a problem for youPassing by a team member struggling to lift something?
