Corteva Agriscience, Agriculture Division of DowDuPont holds an industry-leading position in the discovery, development and production of fermentation-derived natural and semi-synthetic crop protection products. As demand for existing and newly-launched products continues to grow, further productivity improvements to manufacturing-scale fermentation processes are needed to supply this demand, in order to continue to reduce cost of manufacturing and to optimize the asset footprint. The Fermentation Technology and Productivity Improvement Program Leader provides functional leadership across technical experts in R&D, Manufacturing Science and Technology, and Operations to continuously improve productivity of fermentation processes, including those for Spinosyns, Inatreq, and future fermentation-derived products. This role sets strategy with technical experts, identifies workstreams, including those related to fermentation recipes, processing variables, and seed parameters, and directs technical resources to employ rigorous scientific and engineering principles to lead to data-driven decisions. Examples of work streams may include raw material component analysis, metabolomics, meaningful collaborations with internal Data Science and Informatics (DSI) resources and external partners, fundamentals of mixing, mass transfer, and extraction. The Program Leader leads a cross-functional technical team to achieve at least 10% year-on-year productivity improvements. The individual in this role guides investments in capital (for example, instrumentation or R&D equipment) and expense across R&D, Manufacturing Science and Technology, Pilot Plants, and Manufacturing, to drive fermentation productivity improvement in a holistic way. The individual in this role reports to the Crop Protection Manufacturing Science and Technology Director and partners with the Pipeline Supply Program Leaders to deploy consistent program management principles across Corteva Agriscience, Agriculture Division of DowDuPont.
Primary responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to, the following:
Identifies and documents strategy for achieving technical objectives, including identifying risks and risk mitigation plans with technical experts.
Identifies work streams and prioritizes efforts on these work streams to achieve overall improvement goals.
Leads expertise, including in-house scientists and engineers, as well as external consultants and research organizations, to address and achieve milestones for work streams, and leads resolution of complex technical issues.
Anticipates future resources needed for achieving fermentation productivity goals and sets standards for measuring progress toward these goals.
Ensures that experimental designs and experimental results are documented and reported objectively and consistently, capturing enterprise knowledge in fermentation process expertise in robust and retrievable ways.
Reports regularly to stakeholders, including R&D, Manufacturing Science and Technology, and Operations leadership, as well as portfolio business leadership, including Commercial, Supply Chain, and Finance.
Effectively represents and communicates the strategy, goals, and progress to executive leadership.
Leads the Core Advancement Team (CAT), and partners with the team facilitator to execute in alignment with strategy.
Develops the scientific excellence and creativity of the cross-functional team members.
As part of a Program Management Community of Practice, along with the Pipeline Supply Program Leaders, drives continuous improvement in program management practices and expertise throughout Corteva Agriscience R&D and Manufacturing Technology.
Manages Corteva Agriscience, Agriculture Division of DowDuPont Fermentation Intellectual Property to ensure no losses occur.
The following are required:
Bachelors Degree in Chemical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, or related field.
15 years of experience in fermentation research, scale-up, and production, or related fields including aerobic fermentation.
10 years of experience in project management and program management.
Excellent communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to articulate technical achievements and risks clearly to stakeholders at all levels.
Demonstrated ability to lead teams through influence to achieve challenging technical goals.
Demonstrated exceptional creativity in the integration of relevant scientific disciplines to achieve business objectives.
The following are preferred:
PhD in in Chemical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, or related field.
